Considering a new Ulysses. I hear the seat is one of the most comfortable in the business. Comfort is important to me. What are the differences in the 08 vs 09 model years?. Both are available new at dealers close to me. What can I expect out of a new Uly? Any common problems? ECM program probs? Heat? Common upgrades or fixes? Thanks, Barry (Message edited by badbs101 on May 06, 2009) |

The only significant difference between the 08's and 09's is the footpegs. The 09 pegs are black (vs. silver) and have sharper edges and a matte finish so they provide more grip. Both 08's and 09's are pretty trouble free. Only real recurring issue on earlier Ulys have been rear wheel bearings; if the 09 has black seals on the wheel bearings they're the latest version and should be good to go. Otherwise keep an eye on them, let the dealer replace them under warranty if they fail, or spend ~$30 for the updated parts and replace them yourself. ECM programming was updated 2 or 3 times in 08. Dealer should install the latest version for no charge before you take the bike if it's an 08. No problem on an 09. Gas mileage does not seem to be as good on the 08/09 Ulys as 06/07 models (maybe typical 45 MPG max vs. 50 MPG max.). Heat is an issue for some people, but all agree it gets better as the bike gets broken in (5000+ miles is where it really starts to show). There are easy ways of reducing it if it's a problem for you. For me, it would come down to which has the new bearings (black seals on the new bearings) and price. |

Its more than just the seat Barry, the riding position is very comfy,no more sore neck or back for me. I've ridden other bikes that give off more heat. Welcome! |

Check out the blacked out engine on the '09! If that strikes you, the '08 doesn't have it. My '08 has the old colored engine. It's only visual, and does not effect performance. Although every owner of black will tell you otherwise. The frame looks darker as well, but I cannot tell unless they were side by side. Either one is great, and the deals are out there! Go test drive one and get your free lock! The coupon is on the Buell website!! |

I wish I would have waited to get an 09 JUST for the blacked out engine. Oh well that month would have been hell. You can't go wrong with either buy the best deal and enjoy. |

remember the '08 is the 25th anniversary yr with EB's signature. Maybe some kind of collectible in the distant future. |
