Un hook the plug wires . Put the end of both wires on either side of your tongue and crank the motor, if you are shocked on both sides it dual fire and one side then single fire. Seriously you can pull both plugs and hook them to the wires and crank, if both plugs fire at the same time then its dual fire. Do it in a dark garage and its easy to see if you crank the motor over slowly. |

They are dual fire. |

Ok then. What options for a single fire ignition work, because I can't figure it out since I have the dual plug cartridge ECM and not the single plug ECM. |

Brin, I have never run single fire but I know some on this board have so they are better to answer that question. |

POWERARC was the ignition I ran on an old EVO Sportster i bored&stroked. After my modifications caused my stator to short,my Powerarc ignition fried. They sent me a new&improved version FREE of charge.Years later i had the same failure. They SERIOUSLY discounted a replacement.GREAT ignition made in Ankeny,Iowa with EXCELLENT tech support. |

Use a PAIR of Dyna coils |

I think those are only good with the older ECM's, right? This is my stock ECM, Race ECM looks the same but is what I have been running.

It is carb'ed...=) That's why I'm asking, because of this style ECM. |

My early model Powerarc came with a module. On the later version they DITCHED the module. Can always give them a call.I've had several very informative phone calls to them. |

Mines a Crane Hi4 |

Wilson, I have a Crane adjustable ECM on my S1. It has settings for dual or single fire but if you run it in a single fire configuration you have to get a different coil. There may be other mods required that I am forgetting. |

Hey are you going to dual plug heads? |

Mick, which model? http://www.cas4.com/Electrical-Ignition/electronic -ignitions-rpm-limiters-crane.html Eric, I have no idea, I just want to find out what's going to work best...If I need another coil, then so be it, it's not a have to thing, just something I really wanted to find out as some thought it was single fire because of the style of ECM. |

I had the crane HI-4 in my 2000 softail. I loved that ign. Easy install and very adjustable!!! HI-4 |

Nutz its the HI4 not the fireball, the one that fits to the timing plate, it does away with the ECM , and it came with the coil. |

I cann't speak for an M2 but I am pretty sure the X1 is single fire. I read it in Buell literature. |

The EFI bikes are single fire. |

Wow, good question. My 2000 M2 runs Dyna2000 (makes sense) with dual coil pack. Looking on a BUELL site, American Sport Bike shows this one as good for '95-02 carbed models. Some of the single fire kits show '95-00 (only) and I guess this would be because the ECM plug deal was changed around 2001 (?) or late 2000. See: http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/5132.html |

I ran a Daytona TwinTec nosecone single fire ignition on my old Evo big twin for years. It totally bypasses the stock ignition box, it all fit in the nosecone on the end of the cam, and wired directly to the tach and the (new, singlefire) coil. And to battery/ground, of course. Adjustable curves, programmable curves if you have a pc - very nice unit, never had a lick of trouble with it. |

The problem he is having is this M-2 has a ECM just like an XB with the dual plugs and all of the wiring going along with it. Not sure how to bypass all of this and do a nose cone or if it is even possible. All the earlier tubers had just the one wire plug with 7-8 wires. Much easier to get around. |

The unit I have bypasses the ECM, I didn't fit it though ,so not sure of the details |

I *think* he can just unplug the timing cup from his harness, install the nosecone unit and wire it as if it were standalone. IIRC his ignition box will still have to be there to run things like speedo, mileage, etc. - but it should work just fine without needing to run the spark. Install nosecone, install singlefire coil, wire to each other and to power/ground, hook to tach. I think |

Can anyone with an 02 verify by pulling plugs? I surely can't! |

My ECM is gone and the speedo ect still works fine. |

Ok, here's a question. Now that the X1's are Single Fire, and the M2's aren't...What determines that it is single fire. Could it be something in the ECM?? |

What about taking the coil from an X1 and putting it on an M2? I don't know, looking for a cheaper alternative than a Crane, and wondering if it's even remotely possible... I doubt it, but I was just looking at pics and was like..hm, I wonder. |

My carbed XL1200S had an ignition box that looked jus like that, but it was single fire, dual plugged heads with a MAP sensor instead of a VOES switch, all of which was factory equipment on the S models. |

Datona Twin Tec is a really nice ignitionnfor these bikes. Most the guys on the XLF run this ignition. |
