I was browsing through here the other day, and spied a pic of an XB frame with a thumper engine in it. Did anyone ever hear the results of this thing? i.e. How well does it, or dose'nt it work, etc? Just curious.  Sorry, I just thought it was a really neat idea................and thats not good! | ||

Thats a pretty straight forward swap out - been done lots of times - well over 8 times that I know of, most for track singles racing. EZ | ||

Actually, from my understanding is that the XB swap is easier. Both XB and Tube frame 'Blasts' road race at Willow Springs (and I have pics of both). Unless they are in the right hands, there doesnt seem to be much of an advantage (and certainly the stock framed Blast is much cheaper to race and build). After seeing a much modified tube framed Blast rip the shock off the engine, I'm kind of squeamish about that conversion (remember that would collapse the rear suspension and ground the shock into the pavement). Of course ripping the mounts out of a stock framed Blast wouldnt be much fun either. Tubed framed Buells minus the engine come up for sale much more frequently than the XB's do. And as long as they keep building choppers from Sportster engines, both will continue to come up for sale as they usually sell for less than Sportsters (sometimes ridiculously much less). | ||

I dont remember that, but the stock XB uses a front, top and rear tiebar with the rear tiebar mounted at the rear engine mount. It is possible that the top tie bar was deleted since there isnt a rear cylinder to mount the XB bracket too, but I doubt that as its too easy to fabricate one. I do remember the tuber being run (by mistake) without a front tiebar! | ||
