Hi everyone, I picked up a 05 blast 500 and it's not running right. I think I narrowed the problem down to the slide not lifting when I open the throttle. I cleaned the carb. Checked the intake boot...it's ok I got the bike to idle good but when you open the throttle the bike dies out. If I lift the slide while opening the the throttle it will rev like it should. So, I then checked the slide and cv boot and it looks fine no rips or tears. Now, I am not sure if the carb is vacume assist...there is a brass tube on the left side of the carb that has a rubber plug on it...not sure that is right. Also, there is a hose the enters the air box that is hanging and I could not find where it plugs into...looks like a breather of some sort. I guess my 2 questions are. 1) where does the vacume come from to lift the slide...and what might be causing it not to lift. 2) what does the hose in the air box connect to? a pic would be great. Thank for any help, I'm at a loss right now. |

Not familiar with Blasts, but if it's a regular CV carb, vac comes from opening on the intake (engine) side of the carb throat. A torn diaphragm around the top 4 bolt holes can cause a vac leak. Also on the engine side of the throat, on top is a metal spigot for the VOES vac hose. If that's off, it could cause your symptoms. Hope this helps. |

It is a regular CV carb, and the butterfly is opening but the slide won't lift unless I do it manually. I too thought it was a torn diaphram, but it checked out ok...it looks new, no rips or tears. So, I know it's a lack of vacume, but can't figure out what could be the cause?? |

Slide is indeed raised by vacuum, internal to carb.Big area of problems on Blasts is the attaching boot, cheap to buy and get a spare. If carb is still stock, drill out the lead plug to access idle mixture screw, the main is usually too rich and replace the slow jet with bigger--I will get #'s when I get to shop. Diagnosis is easy-- raise the slide with your finger all the way and let go,it should come down in a smooth controlled manner or diaphragm is bad.You can hear the vacuum. |
