time for my first oil change on the xb9s. anyone vac the oil out and not deal with the drain plug at all? so i am going to try the gear oil pump to hand pump the oil out of the swing arm.one of those pumps used to fill a diff on a 4x4 is what i have.6 bucks and already have some oil in the 'rage.20/50 even LOL i guess it really hinges on how satisfied i am about getting as much oil out as i can.i would never do it this way always,sometimes the plug needs to come out and get all the goo out. we'll see, i will post up monday about how it went,as i dont feel like mucking with it tonight LOL |

I wouldn't cut corners on the first oil change. Bits of metal from the break-in may be present in the oil and should be flushed out. The plug and strainer should be checked. The oil filter needs to be replaced as well. |

Less time spent just pulling the plug. Once I got my parts in one place, it takes no time to change in oil in it. |

it is used :P 18k on the ticker..and have the oil filter in hand as well. my vw's....shhhh ran like a demon...ALWAYS had small magnesium flakes in the oil.like metallic paint !!!! i expect oil that needs to be changed,and no flakes or grit LOL scott |

Good Lord just pull the plug. It will likely take you less time than pumping the oil out, and why in the world would you even consider leaving your crappy old oil and sediment in your motor?? Sorry, but this is just plain and simple a BAD idea. |

Fortunately my dealer is Buell friendly. Saturday morning oil change for decent price. No muss, no fuss, good company and free coffee and doughnuts (sometimes). |

ok now..been traumatized with mud getting stuck in mud sucks. also been traumatized with damn drain plugs. also am done with it now... AND i am going to remove the bracketry that holds the chin fairing and weld nuts to the back.i HATE things with nuts,bolts,washer where u need 2 hands to deal with it. just weld and cordless impact and zip zip x5 and all bolts and fairings are off and out of the way. what a sloppy and un neccesarily messy deal that was. note to erik buell tap the brackets or weld nuts on the back. make working on it easier faster smarter.and make the bracket on teh right side open around the filter for access.right now it is too close to teh filter. scott and draining the swing arm wont get the goop out of the engine btw there is always some junk settled in there that wont be out till u dis assemble and clean it. |

Over here, it's pouring rain and there's a guy with a shotgun holding hostages across from an elementary school. Kids were eventually evacuated to a convention centre for pickup. There are police cars at every intersection and nobody can leave their houses. Been that way for a couple of hours. Just a thought to help brighten up your mood. |

What are you talking about with the chin fairing brackets? Mine have nuts welded onto them. Is your bike new or used? |

mine is used and has nuts and bolts.so the newer ones have nuts welded on?cool! |

put a few washers between the bracket and the fairing on the bolt by the filter. You can't see it and it won't hit the filter. |

Man, if your holes are taped no wonder you have problems- take the tape off immediately! |
