Ok, this may be a stupid question but I'm gonna ask it anyway. So I have some leakage coming out of where the clutch cable goes into the primary cover. Its just enough to run down the cable and get on the chin fairing. The bike has 8000 miles and this will be the second clutch cable. It may just be the o-ring but I am looking at replacing the cable as well. My question is 1. Do you have to drain the primary fluid before taking out the cable. 2. You fill the primary up to the bottom of the clutch diaphragm spring with the bike in the upright position, correct? Any tips to changing out the cable. I have the factory manual and it looks pretty straight forward. Thanks | ||

If the bike is standing straight up you don't have to drain it. You might if it's on the side stand. | ||

When you drain and refill, generally one quart of Formula + (or what ever)will put it where it needs to be. | ||

Stewadi- The leak is almost certainly coming from the cable itself- where the metal section is crimped onto the plastic sheath. I had my cable replaced under warranty about 6 months ago. The new cable looks slightly different and hasn't leaked or weeped a bit. Others have had good look sealing the cable using self-bonding electrical tape. This isn't standard electrical tape, but a special type that bonds to itself. It'd be worth a try before you spring ~$30 for a new cable. | ||

Well I got my clutch cable switched out with no problems. Fairly straight forward. I was just happy my dealer had all the parts I needed in stock. So far no more leaks. Hugh, Yeah the new cable does look a little different in the fitting area so hopefully this settles the problem. Thanks everybody for the assistance. |
