My husband and I are new to motorcycling and are going to be taking the Basic Rider's Course this summer. YA!!!
The problem is, his huge head! : ) He was given a XXL helmet when we bought our bike (2002 Blast). It doesn't fit. It is to tight and gave him a headache while practicing in the parking lot.
The second problem, he's saying it's okay because he doesn't want to spend $ on himself. Every woman's dream, I know. But I want him safe and comfortable.
Anybody out there have a 3XL helmet or something that could work to give or sell for something reasonable, or advice where to look. His head circum. is 25". Thanks!!!

I was always in a XXL helmet, and had the toughest time finding one that didn't give me a headache. I found that the shape of my melon caused me as many problems as the size (I know, I sound like a circus freak, eh?). I tried on a Shark RSi, and LOVE it. I'm only in an XL in that, so may be worth looking at. You can pick them up new on ebay for a good price (paid $150 for mine). Also try the HJC CL-15, had one some time ago that fit pretty well, but much heavier than the RSi. Good luck-it's tough to enjoy riding in a helmet that's too small.

I've seen the one's on Ebay. The problem is knowing which one's to get. Price is definitely a factor.

First of all welcome to motorcycling, Buells and BadWeb! I've been riding just about a year and have a few pointers when looking for a helmet. First I wouldn't assume he needs a 3X because different manufacturers have different actual sizes. For instance, my head circum is 24", and I assumed I needed a 3X helmet because I tried on a 2X helmet in the Buell store and it was too tight. I bought a 3X Icon Airframe and was happy with it. Later on I started researching helmets and liked what I saw regarding the Bell Star. I went to a local shop to try one, only to find out they only go up to 2X. Tried it on anyway and it fit great.

If you find he really needs a 3X because of the shape of his head, you may want to look at Icon. They make the Airframe model in 3X, and Icon is popular enough that when you need to get replacement parts (cheekpads, shields) they're not to hard to find.

I understand about different fits for different brands. Our problem is, where we live, there is only 1 moto store. Online, seems to be our only source, and therein lies the fear!
