I planning on selling my Suzuki M50 and I have never sold a bike before. What is the going consensus of letting people test ride your bike? Besides someone dropping the bike I would hate for someone that has not ridden much have a wreck. | ||

If they wanna ride it I would make sure they have what ur asking for in cash and let u hold it while they test ride it incase they drop it etc. If the don't have there licens don't let them ride it at all. | ||

No MC endorsement and helmet (of theirs) no rides on my bikes. I take my other bike and lead them around as well to make sure they arent riding like an idiot (and know where they go if they run off) Depends on the guy, most of the time also like the others, cash in my pocket to cover any potential damages. If they dont have cash, MC endorsement or gear, they can watch me ride it up and down the street to prove it works. All important if you have any questions, cover your own @$$ in any way possible. | ||

No ride, unless they are serious and have fund. I can smell the B.S. or like above they can watch me. Have sold a few cycles and get a feel for the tire kickers | ||

Keep in mind, should the WORST happen, you gave this guy permission to ride your bike. If he accidentally kills someone, or seriously injures some pedestrian, YOUR insurance is potentially on the line, not necessarily his (if he even has any). Just throwin' that out there. ->ChelleM | ||

"Would a signed and dated bill of sale relieve one of this responsibility?" Probably would go a long way. In MN, you can go on line and transfer title immediately and not have to go with the buyer to a license branch, which is a challenge on Sundays. | ||

I would NEVER let anyone ride a bike. Sell it to them and in the bill of sale provide for a 30 minute "buy back". The risk is too great. | ||

I have yet to sell a bike privately, but I prefer Court's solution the best. | ||

Court, May we assume that the "buy back" clause includes language that protects the seller in case of damage to the motorcycle, persons or property?  | ||

I'll buy it back under the condition that it's condition is unchanged. It's what we in construction call "risk shifting". No way I would let anyone test ride a motorcycle and allow myself and my resources to be placed in total and complete jeopardy. The guy could intentionally fall in your driveway and end up owning your house as well as your motorcycle. Happens everyday (in fact, many times a day) in America. I don't think a potential buyer would fall under the "casual use, assumption of risk" wherein I let Gentleman Jon take my bike for a ride and he crashes it. Entirely different. Be aware. | ||
