get yer mind out of the gutter, this isn't the quick board! i'm in atlanta this week, and will be heading west to take ownership of ft_bstrd's uly. after i bring it back, i'll be in the atl for another week (for work) then will ride the bike home to minnesota, leaving on the 10th. while i'm down this way and itching to ride, any suggestions on places to hit near here? i was planning to head up through suches/deals gap/the dragon on my trip home, but may do it sooner unless anyone has some other suggestions... also on the trip back, i'll be heading north up to chicago then west unless weather forbids. any must-ride spots along that route? |

There are some good roads in KY. There is jack squat in west TN, Western KY, Southeastern MO, IL, or Indiana. I'd head up the eastern part of TN through KY and over. You will want a whole day in Suches just by itself. Don't just plow through. You'll be sorry! |

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to Badweb. I'm glad I didn't sell my Uly to you. My wife is letting me buy an XR650R for my birthday...and keep my Uly. My wife is the best! |

wow, andrejs, that's pretty sick! are you buying new, or did you pick up that one from chicago craigslist a few days back? the xr bikes are extremely reliable, a little heavy maybe, but coming from a uly it'll feel like a feather. |

I found one down by that hole named Detroit. It's a 2001 pretty much fully modded. It was on CL in Michigan. It was the choice between farkled or not for about the same $. I'll choose to go with the one someone already tricked out. I hope it works out. |

detroit cl, that's right. now you'll hafta hit up the bonebag rally in wisconsin--bring both bikes if you can swing it. have fun on your new rig! while you're around, can you tell me the quickest way past chicago? i like the town, but don't really want to push straight through on my ride home. |

Don't know much about circumnavigating Chicago. All I know is that is sucks donkey balls. I get there and park the car. Good luck. |

ft, basically, you're correct about Indiana's [lack of] twisty roads EXCEPT south of Bloomington, to the Ohio River the Knobs region as you near KY is pretty darn good |

Will you have the bike and the time this weekend 4th-5th ? I plan on going to suchess area of from N. atlanta. Not sure what day yet. Just got back from a nice ride in the suchess / deals gap area. Had the day off and decided to go for a ride. The roads up there are just made for motorcycles. |

If your going up to Pequot lakes thats by Brainerd Int. Raceway,I've been there many times for the Super Bike races. The first few years I went it was World Super Bike with big teams from all over the world, then it was only AMA Super Bike but it was still great you could camp 30 feet from the track and the corner workers would drive the track at 7 am and blow air horns to wake all the hungover people up.I camped next to a guy 1 year who every 2 hours he would start his bike and hold it on the rev limit,he did that all weekend then rode it home to MPLS.I used to take my dual sport into the slough in turn 1,saw some 180 mph crashes. Oh wait I got off track. If you want to miss Chicago you could go accross IL.on 74 and up the Missisipi at Moline IL. and take 67 then 52 then 61 into MN then hwy 60 over to my place for a Beer. |

was thinking about hitting suches and northward this sunday, since a little bstrdy told me that it should be a day long trip. gotta trust a man who changes the oil, clutch, rear tire, belt, and lord knows what else before selling his bike. (thanks again sir). thinking of heading up there yourself, eh? pm me if you're still planning on it come the end of the week. mnrider, thanks for the beer offer and advice; hwy 61 is a nice route on a bike. bir just completed a new road course in hopes (according to my source) of bringing back the world super bike, or whatever its called anymore. i'm about twenty minutes (or an hour the scenic way) just north of there. its pretty sick to be outside working on your bike in the summer with a cigar and the sound of drag bikes/cars/whatever in the distance. |

thanks again sir My pleasure. Make sure you hit Richard Russell. Looks like rain on Sunday. You may want to hit it on the way back from Nashville in case Sunday is a wash. What time are you hitting town? |

Nice! You could hit Suches from Nashville in about 3.5 hours. You've got to go through Chattanooga to get back to Atlanta anyway. It wouldn't be out of the way. google Richard Russell Secenic Hwy: +Blairsville,+Union,+Georgia+30512&ie=UTF8&hl=en&c d=1&geocode=FfRnEgIdGWAA-w&split=0&sll=37.0625,-95 .677068&sspn=23.875,57.630033&ll=34.711703,-83.803 539&spn=0.06731,0.109863&t=h&z=13,http://maps.goog le.com/maps?sourceid=navclient&q=Richard+B+Russell +Scenic+Hwy,+Blairsville,+Union,+Georgia+30512&ie= UTF8&hl=en&cd=1&geocode=FfRnEgIdGWAA-w&split=0&sll =37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=23.875,57.630033&ll=34.71 1703,-83.803539&spn=0.06731,0.109863&t=h&z=13 |

oh, I thought you were picking it up today. Skimmed the earlier posts to quickly I guess. I may be around this weekend, not sure yet but I will keep you posted here. I was thinking of some twisties or some FS road riding. Then again IIRC I think FB didn't really have his Uly rigged for dirt so maybe twisties would be in order. Fine by me...I can always use more practice. |

There are a TON of cool roads north of La Crosse, if you aren't opposed to a little detour back into WI. Probably not quite as good as TN, but good. Especially 108 going north towards Mindoro just east of town, 88 northeast off of the River road (35), 95 northeast out of Fountain City to name a few. You are going to be so spoiled by Tennessee roads though, that these will seem tame. (Message edited by 12x9sl on March 31, 2009) (Message edited by 12x9sl on March 31, 2009) |

+2000 on Richard Russell Scenic Hwy .. a road that must have been designed just for motorcycles. The only thing that could make it better was no traffic and an air fence at every turn. On that road, every turn = the whole road. |

On that road, every turn = the whole road. Not if you're doing it right. |

alright, i'm pulling the plug on taking 'the scenic route' back from nashville on saturday. i need to get a feel for the bike a bit and break in the new rear tire before i go hitting the twisties. so i'm going on sunday. anyone else nearby who wants to hit suches/richard russell hwy/deals gap/dragon shoot me a pm or post something here. never been up that way, so someone who has (or can call 911) would be sick. %50 chance of rain be damned, i'm riding! not written in stone--just an idea... http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&source=s_d&saddr=a lpharetta,+ga&daddr=suches+ga+to:34.944488,-84.044 037+to:TN-115%2FUS-129+to:US-64+to:Richard+B+Russe ll+Scenic+Hwy,+Georgia+to:alpharetta+ga&hl=en&geoc ode=%3B%3B%3BFYSIHgId5kj--g%3BFd6VFgIdSgoB-w%3B%3B &mra=dme&mrcr=1&mrsp=2&sz=10&via=2,4&sll=34.82395, -83.931427&sspn=0.529853,0.878906&ie=UTF8&z=10 since i'll get to spend the whole day up that way, thinkin' i'm just gonna super-slab it back home to minnesota the next weekend. hopefully the foot+ of snow that just fell will be gone by then. thanks y'all! good luck. |
