I've got a safety wiring kit from pit posse that doesn't strike me as being the highest quality. The drilling jig looks like the drill bit hole is placed too close to the outside edge of the nut hole (please no juvenile comments about "nut holes") I keep breaking off drill bits inside the jig, and have done nothing but scratch the finish on a couple of nuts and bolts. Any ideas out there from anyone else who uses safety wire? btw I'm not doing any racing, I just really like the raw mechanical look of hardware being safety wired. AND if it's safety wired then it doesn't need loctite |

Go to www.PegasusAutoRacing.com They have an assortment of safety wiring equipment for track cars that should be useful for you. |

Lots of 1/16" bits, a good center punch, and patience. Skip the jig. |

And chuck way up on the bits, as much as you can. It'll help avoid breaking more than your fare share. |

use cutting oil when you drill them. Slow even feed pressure. I like my Motion Pro jigs. |

And if you can, see if you can mark the piece being drilled before drilling. (I had to read that twice, LOL.) Try center-punching the piece at that spot. May keep the bit from trying to 'walk' and putting lots of side load on the bit. |

If your doing it with a hand drill, good luck. Drill press with a mounted vise, good. Milling machine with insert vise, best. Get a # 1 or # 2 combination center drill and use it to start the hole then finish with desired size drill. Using a mill it takes about thirty seconds a hole. +1 on the drill press. Only try to do it by hand if absolutely unavoidable. |

If you are going to try it with a hand drill it will help to drill straight in at first just a little. This way you will start the hole and then go at it on an angle using the first hole as a punch/guide. |
