If I were to buy a bike with one of those on it, it would be the first thing I would remove. |

Personally not my cup of tee but it's your bike and if you like it then it's all good. One of the thing I don't like on the Ss compare to the Scg is actually the size of the Ss hugger so it give you an idea of what I like |

I didn't realize it was called a hugger. J.M.O. but I also prefer the scg "hugger." |

looks good, but to me goes against the minimalist ideas on the buells.they have like zero fluff, nothing more than exactly what it needs. like that tail piece tho, very nice. |

I like it more then my Ss hugger but if I were to change it I'd go the other direction... agreed Niceguyeddy, the Scg's very short hugger is the best looking. |

Where did you get that???? Can you still return it? What purpose does it serve that the stock piece didn't already do? Sorry man, but that was not worth whatever you paid. Even if you are getting paid to have it on, give the person who paid u their money back. -1,000,000,000,000,000 |

I appreciate the honesty! I just don't like mud on the back of my helmet, every time I go through a puddle. It's nice to have a "sport bike", but for street riding, it has to have some minimal amount of functionality. In case there are some people that like it, but don't want to disagree with you guys, the fender came of a 2000 Ducati ST2. Wait a minute, now that it's a Ducati piece, does everyone all of a sudden like it? |

I hate to break this as news, but that hugger is not going to be very effective in keeping road gunk off your helmet because its coverage does not extend behind the taillight mounted on the rear subframe which is where you want more of a "fender/deflector" to extend rearward. If you don't believe me, try riding next to your bike on a wet road with someone else piloting it so you can observe the rooster tail of water spray. You'll probably find that the undertail body panel above and in front of the hugger stays fairly clean but the under side of the taillight gets covered with muck as well as your back & pillion seat with overspray. There are some of us who have experienced similar issues with an S1 Lightning which had a really, really large but extremely effective swingarm mounted fender as stock, so we know what you are trying to do. Now, if you were to put a Ventura luggage rack on the back with something flat laid down on it, that would be the most effective, albeit not too visually appealing, but extremely useful and versatile. Make your choice. Anyway, nice work adapting a hugger from a different bike. It looks pretty OK in my book, IMHO. |

I just got done cleaning my bike, only to find the underside of my tail section is all scuffed and scrapped from what ever the tire has been picking up. Its visible at 20' away. At that point I wished my hugger actually worked. Then found this thread and found your pics. Not real sure if I like the looks of it yet, but I really do not like my problem of what I've got now. Not to mention the rooster tail of water shooting up your back side after a light rain is really annoying. |

I haven't rain-tested it yet, but I extended the bottom ends of it right to the swingarm and at the very least, it will stop the water from getting on the back of my pants, being thrown by the edges of the tire. Now the stuff that's higher up towards the seat, there is no helping that, unless I put a full 180 degree fender on it, and if this is too much for some, I might as well buy a cruiser before I go any further |

I like it and the idea you used a part not meant for a xb.While it isnt something I would use it does look good for those who are sick of the mud&water.I bet the ulysses guys would love it you should post it there. |

Not my cup of tea BUT, if its functional and keeps you dry it actually looks quite good considering. It fits the curve of the tire well. Other idea is to extend the number plate a little. I raised my number plate a fraction and got a lot more wet than i used to. I can only think that if i lowered it half an inch it would keep me completely dry. |

Let us know how well it works. I've been wondering what to do with mine (2003 xb9s). It feels like someone's stuck a garden hose in your back pocket when you get caught in the rain. Where did you get the piece? Thanks! |

Personally, I love it. My only reservation is the removal of the belt guards. If I could have that AND the belt guards, I'd do it. BTW, where the heck did you get it??? ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on April 06, 2009) |

Looks kinda space-shippy in a Jetsons sort of way IMO. Not my speed, but if you like it, no complaints from me! |

I like it a lot. I have an extended Buell carbon fiber hugger, and it really keeps the shock and underseat clean. |

Thanks for the comments! This is the actual item that I purchased: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ewItem&item=160321701657&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWNX%3 AIT&viewitem= Took me about 2 hours to make, including prep & paint. $60 for the fender, 2 screws 1/2" longer than the ones on my factory hugger ( I had some in the garage), made 2 SS brackets and used 1 factory screw from my belt guard. I will take it off to add 1 more washer on the left screw, to align it better and will post pics of the finished piece and the factory hugger that I have cut, to use as a support. |

Swordsman, I took the guards off a long time ago, I was actually thinking about putting the lower one back on the bike, the upper one can be used, I just don't like the looks of it, the hugger does not interfere with it at all. |

Just cause your bike hasn't seen a drop of soap in ages doesn't mean everyone else shouldn't clean their bikes once a decade or so (Message edited by juniorkirk on April 07, 2009) |
