quote:

If ANY of us does a poor job at our place of employ we can expect to be released or demoted, not fed a fat bonus! If I fail at my job, and don't provide the best customer service possible, I can expect my competitors to take my customers from me and cause me to fail, thereby ending my venture, lose my store lose my income...no parachute.

You just stated what Obama doesn't seem to understand. If you fail at your job your competitors and your customers will take your income away from you. The market (as a whole) will decide whether you need to stay in business. To have the government step in and tell a private business how they are going to run things and remove a CEO is fundamentally un-american.

I don't get what was so funny about that.

Because Obama has no mission. You believe in nothing, because it doesn't exsist. Obama ran his whole campaign on "Change", and what do we have - MORE spending, the same earmarks (which was a HUGE deal in his campaign), and the attemped errosion of rights. I voted for Bush and turned out not to be that big of a fan. I wanted change, too, but we're going in the wrong direction, big time.

Anybody who votes for a man who promises to spend twice as much and tax less need to spend 99 cents on a calculator.

Why should the United States government be afraid of the people? explain that one to me.

Because when a government is afriad, it does what the people want. When it's not afriad, it does what it wants. You very well may agree with how Obama and his administration are running things (hypothertical, not trying to put words in anyone's mouth), but you would be a fool to assume that the extreme of his views (or anyone's, for that matter) wouldn't do anyone any good aside from those in power. I'm not saying they need to fear for their safety, but power is important to these guys, so they need to be afriad to lose that. If they can fool everyone into thinking that they have the golden key to fix the universe, then they can, and will, do as they wish.

I hope we don't all wake up in a certain Ayn Rand novel someday...

Court,
I hate to disagree with you on this "Obama, in those first 60 days, racked up more debt THAN ALL THE PRESIDENTS FROM WASHINGTON TO BUSH COMBINED but Bush the younger's Medicaid part D tops obama's 6 trillion by quite a bit.

For everyone else, do yourself a favor tonight and watch this 30 min clip from David Walker (former Comptroller of the US) who quit his job as the #1 accountant in the world so he could say what needs to be said about where we are going as a country.http://www.iousathemovie.com/

As a side note ignore the quote about "Inconvenient Truth" from Reuters, just watch the video.

It really makes me sad that "we" as a country are cheering our own destruction. Unfortunately, it has made me consider whether or not i think this is the best place for my kids and grandkids to spend the rest of their lives (I believe it is, but just the fact that the thought crossed my minds scares the crap outta me). I love this country, who and what we are, but not so sure about where we are going. "We" are killing the things that make this country great one at a time.....its like death from a thousand paper cuts.

Ok, off my soap box....how 'bout them Met's? and its a real pain in the butt to get a wrench on the bolt that hold the turn signal stalks on a Uly ain't it?

A few quotes from Judd Gregg who was nominated by Obama to be the Secretary of Commerce and then stepped down when heard of Rahm's plan to "help" the National Census and he got details of Obama's plans . . .

quote:

"What concerns many of us are his proposals in the budget he recently sent to
Quote{"Hello, I'm Judd Gregg, senator from New Hampshire. We all know these are difficult times. People are worried about keeping their jobs, paying their bills, the value of their homes and the cost of sending their kids to college. It's hard.

"Thus I appreciate, as do all Americans, the efforts being made by our president and his seriousness about addressing these issues.

"But what concerns many of us are his proposals in the budget he recently sent to the Congress that dramatically grow the size and cost of government and move it to the left.

"It is our opinion that this plan spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much.

"You may have heard this before that the budget of the president spends too much, taxes too much and borrows too much.

"What do we mean? Well, let me give you a few examples.

"In the next five years, President Obama's budget will double the national debt; in the next ten years it will triple the national debt.

"To say this another way, if you take all the debt of our country run up by all of our presidents from George Washington through George W. Bush, the total debt over all those 200-plus years since we started as a nation, it is President Obama's plan to double that debt in just the first five years that he is in office.

"He is also planning to spend more on the government as a percentage of our economy than at any time since World War II.

"His budget assumes the deficit will average $1 trillion dollars every year for the next 10 years and will add well over $9 trillion dollars in new debts to our children's backs.

"He also is proposing the largest tax increase in history, much of it aimed at taxing small business people who have been, over the years, the best job creators in our economy. And further, he is proposing a massive new national sales tax on your electric bill. So that every time you turn on a light switch, in your house, you will be hit with a new tax -- and it averages over $3,000 per household.

"These are staggering numbers and represent an extraordinary move of our government to the left.

"The president to his credit is not trying to hide this; in fact he is very forthright in stating that he believes that by greatly expanding the spending, the taxing and the borrowing of our government, this will lead us to prosperity.

"Here of course is where we differ. We believe you create prosperity by having an affordable government that pursues its responsibilities without excessive costs, taxes or debt. That it is the individual American who creates prosperity and good jobs, not the government.

"We believe that you create energy independence not by sticking Americans with a brand new national sales tax on everyone's electric bill, but by expanding the production of American energy, such as environmentally sound off-shore drilling, nuclear power, wind, solar while also conserving more.

"We also believe you improve everyone's health care not by nationalizing the health care system and putting the government between you and your doctor, but by assuring that every American has access to quality health insurance and choices in health care.

"We believe that you run a sound and affordable government not by running up the national debt to historic levels and unsustainable levels while over-taxing working Americans and spending as if there is no tomorrow, but rather by working on limiting the growth of government in a manner that is affordable not only today but for the next generation through limiting spending and addressing core issues like the cost of entitlements.

"Our nation has an exceptional history of one generation passing on to the next generation a more prosperous and stronger country, but that tradition is being put at risk. The dramatic move to the left and the massive increase in the size and cost of the government, proposed by the budget of President Obama, will lead to an immense national debt that not only threatens the value of the dollar and puts at risk our ability to borrow money to run the government. But it will also place our children at a huge disadvantage as they inherit this debt which will make their chances of success less than those given to us by our parents. It is not right for one generation to do that to another generation.

"Rather, we believe that if you properly steward the responsibilities of the government, if you do not spend too much, if you do not tax too much, if you do not borrow too much, we can leave our children a better nation where they will have even greater opportunity for prosperity, peace and freedom.

"Thank you for taking the time to listen, and have a great weekend."

This administration is the makes best argument for the "pro choice" movement. I still have mixed feelings though.

Moore has made a career out of b.s.

His first big movie, about GM & Flint, was funny, I thought. The tactic of going up to a guard at a large company, and asking to interview the Prez. of that company with your scruffy looking crew...... FUNNY!

Then the follow up where you ask the guard, ( who probably works for a temp agency & has no clue or interest in what the company does ) the maximum emo questions "intended" for the Prez. ..... Priceless. Since the guard doesn't want trouble, or know ANYTHING, he can't even respond to the "did you quit beating your wife?" questions. Well, it was funny the first time.

Does he have any other schtick? I only caught a bit of later docu-comedies and they all looked the same. No respect for the subject, to get laughs, no respect for the truth, because that's inconvenient to the gag. A nastier sense of humour than I like. Moore is not a documentary film maker.

Now "This Is Spinal Tap", that was a funny docu-comedy. The bit with the drummer's interview in a hotel bathtub, or the Amp that goes to 11.... That's entertainment!

Moore, not so funny. maybe I grew up & got a job? I discount any tales of his personal or business life. As a public figure with a rude reputation, he may be maligned unfairly. ( or may not.. )

I do have to ask about the last of the Clinton years. Bill, I mean. I was under the impression that the "surplus" claimed by Clintonistas was a projected one, based on the initial spurt of money, projected to increase, and level spending by Congress. Then & only then would there really be a surplus. Of course, Congress spent more & more, and the economy tanked under the weight of the higher taxes, lowering revenue. ( though more & higher "fees" and "charges" began their massive climb in that admin on state & federal levels )

I also remember a 2000 report that stated that the final years figures of the Clinton Admin. were "mistaken" ( lied about ) to the tune of 30%. So, did we ever actually have that mythical surplus?

Spike,
Micheal Moore sometimes actually makes a point, purely on accident. However, its often contrary to what he's trying to say and he is, without fail, always completely oblivious to it.

Being an avid reader and semi-liberal minded person, I tried to read one of his books. I would not recommend it. Within a few pages I realized he's a complete idiot, halfway through the first chapter I wanted to kick his ass. I never made it thru the second chapter. It remains the only book I ever stopped reading and never finished.
