Here's the skinny...I was rolling up to a stop light like I've done a million times. Just as I was stopped and about to put my foot down, I heard the unmistakable sound of tires skidding on asphalt. I looked over my should just in time to see a white blur coming right for me. Instinct kicked in and I dumped the clutch and headed for the turning lane to my right. I didn't make it all the way but I got far enough out of the way that only the corner of the the car hit me and it wasnt a square hit. I was thrown to the ground and the bike was on top of me and the car was on top of it and we were all sliding happily through the intersection. once everything stopped it took a half dozen guys to pick the car up and drag me from underneath it. God decided to leave me here for a little while longer I guess. I took a quick ride in the back of an ambulance, spent the day in the ER, two weeks on the couch playin X Box, and a few trips to the chiro to get some disks re-aligned in my neck and back...a small price to pay for my life. |

Glad that you made it. Hope this doesn't stop you from riding again. Did you get a good lawyer to sue the crap out of them? |

"I dumped the clutch....." Thank f*ck you were ready to roll! I see a lot of guys at stop lights out of gear believing they are saving their clutch and if that was one of them they would be pushing up weeds right now... Glad you made it... |

You did good by keeping your head together...a close friend of mine didn't do so well...he was coming back from Sturgis...was only 35 miles from home, stopped at a traffic light...some stupid witch in a cage ran him completely over...end of story. When I stop at a signal...it's clutch in...in gear, watching the mirrors...I haven't been hit....but I have had a couple of close calls over the years. |

Glad it turned out (mostly) OK. What kind of gear did you have, and how did it work? Good and bad? |

Glad you had a happy ending. Being in first gear at full stop is one of the steps they most emphasize in the Riding Safety Education classes and they make you practice it over and over again. For a good reason. |

hey, thanks for all the love. clutches are relatively cheap compared to funerals. 12 years of riding/racing dirtbikes before i ever threw my leg over a Buell helps me stay safe when im on the road. that instinct saved my life. two months after the wreck i bought another XB9 and never looked back. as for the gear..well, i used to be one of those punk kids who had to look cool by riding in shorts and a t-shirt but thankfully that morning it was a little cool and i had on a pair of jeans, my scorpion jacket with full protection, scorpion exo helmet, and tourmaster gloves. the jacket was scraped and melted through the outside layer and the helmet was scraped up pretty good. the jeans did very little to protect my legs which is where i go the most rash. my chest was bruised and sore from hitting the handle bars and actually bending them. the gear i had on performed beautifully. before i ever rode my newest XB i bought a new helmet, jacket with full protection, 50/50 boots, AND a pair of pullover ballistic pants. i cant emphasize enough how much protection should over-ride "coolness". and if you spend you money wisely your protective gear can be cool. |

Definitely sucks...good to hear your ok and were on your toes. I never sit in neutral anymore because of a close call like that. Hearing that sound sends shivers down my spine. The biggest thing that sucks about all of that is you had to deal with that terrible Xbox...get a PS3...lol Seriously...good to hear you made it out relatively ok |

Now I'm going to go get some "cool" outer wear pants(ballistic pants) for my riding. Got all the rest of the gear. Thanks for sharing! |
