http://www.nytimes.com/2009/03/15/us/politics/15he alth.html?fta=y

I rarely vent my frustrations online but this really chaps my fat hairy butt. It's amazing to me how hypocritical most politicians are. After criticizing McCain on the campaign trail for talking about taxing health benefits the Obama administration is discussing doing the same thing. I suppose in the end we will pay one way or another and seeing as he has not kept his promise to go through the bills line by line a cutout the wasteful spending we will be paying more.

My question is, do the people that will receive health coverage from this new government program have to pay taxes on the coverage they get? I highly doubt it.

Welcome to the USSA (United Socialist States of America) comrade.

When I first started riding motorcycles, Castrol was the preferred brand of motor oil for bikes. Does anybody use it any more?

Get used to it.

Obama campaigned against "tax and spend" and told us it was "time to save and invest".

He was in office for less than 60 days before he had committed the United States of America to more debt than all the Presidents in the history of this nation was Washington to Bush . . COMBINED.

Bother anyone else that the President can have the CEO of GM fired? What, I'm curious, is the function of the board of directors going forward and why was the head of the UAW not tossed out on his ass as well?

Get used to it . . . we're now seeing "maximum wages" to go with "minimum wages" . . . . guess where the 98% of the honest folks who earned and deserved those wages are going?

Keep an eye on Rahm.

Court, I'll admit I voted for obama but this isnt what I thought I was getting. I got most of my info from the diddy blog and he never mentioned obama doing stuff like this. Maybe diddy is privy to a widescale plan that will work out in the coming years?

I expect the first case to be heard by the Supreme Court on the Constitutionality of Obama's actions to come from a Board of Directors.

There is NO legal basis for the Federal Government to either "nationalize" GM nor to hire or fire ANYONE.

Get used to Michigan in Kansas, and Mississippi, and Nevada, and California.

When they tax everything under the sun, the market will collapse.

Come on, now; the Nazis had their chance and they completely hosed the economy. You should at least let the Communists have a year to see how much they can screw it up. I doubt they could be any worse.
Of course, I could be wrong. I'm still trying to figure out what differences there are between the two parties.
Q. How can you tell when a Politician is lying?
A. His lips are moving.

I hope we won't have to see the day when our nation was in the condition that Germany and the USSR found themselves in after the failure of the prevailing political gale.

I'm still trying to figure out what differences there are between the two parties.

Honestly, over the last 8 years, it was hard to tell.

When you don't have a job then you don't have company paid health benefits.

If you don't have company paid health benefits then they can't tax your health benefits.

See, there's nothing to worry about ... except that no-job thing.

I used to fish for fun, now I'll be fishing for food. They'll probably try to tax any fish I catch as "income".

Who was that political humorist of days gone by, I forget his name at the moment, has an estate and college named after him (I think) over in Oklahoma, died in an airplane crash, did a bunch of Western movies, was it Rogers??? In any case I think a lot of his sayings are going to be getting refreshed over the next four years.

Have fun, I'll be out back figuring out how to best cook a rabbit, and how best to sell a Buell. I suspect the answer to both is "in pieces and well done", I'll let you all know if I find out otherwise.

Crusty,

Kids on CR85's running 32:1 110-octane race gas & blendzall; makes me wish I was back out in the desert right now. Intoxicating aroma.

Way the economy is stagnating, I'll have plenty of time, if not the wherewithal, to do just that.

Its too late. Those folks that think they don't have to do a damn thing, and still get everything given to them have officially outnumbered those of us that give a dam, and expect that the only way to get anywhere is hard work. I am glad that I go to work each day, so some lazy douche doesn't have to.

How's this for relevance.

According to the show I saw on the Discovery Channel a few weeks ago the Mayan calender ends in December of 2012 and will spell the end of mankind. I saw it on TV so it must be true, right.

Oh well, time to go smoke a cigar and have a glass of Captain Morgan.

Thing is, we are already taxed on health benefits.

Hospitals and ER's are already legally obligated to provide care for people unable to pay.

Where do you think that money comes from? Think it magically appears from a desire for goodwill?

Sounds like big brother is leaning towards a government sponsored health insurance plan. That is better then a lot of other options, particularly if it is "opt in" and you pay for it.

How much you want to bet though, that they fund this insurance through taxing other medical plans? Or health institutions. So guess what, you can't buy private health insurance unless you pony up and pay for the public health insurance first. Which will drive costs through the roof, meaning nobody can afford private health insurance. See how thats gonna work?

Healthcare is unique in that unlike other forms of insurance, the premiums are not taxable as income to the employee AND the benefits are tax free.

If you deduct life insurance or disability premiums, the benefit is taxable. If you don't, the benefits are tax free.

Now, if you wanted to be consistent in a tax policy, you would allow the employee to determine whether they wanted to pay taxes on the premiums or on the benefit received.

Nearly all would pay the taxes on the premiums in order to receive the potentially larger benefits tax free.
