I was having a discussion with someone about what someone's shoes can tell you about them. Somehow the conversation turned to what someone has on their desk. Is a family photo? Is it a professional award? A toy perhaps? Nothing? So I am curious what others have on their desk. Post up the two most interesting items that are of personal nature. Me: I have my beloved spring ball, and an original (194?ish) slinky. My spring ball is one of my most prized items, and I have been looking for another for about 15 years. As for my slinky, I just love the sound.

I have an aluminum ash tray of a B-29 in flight that was once on a Boeing executive's desk. I enjoy it every time I look at it. |

You know . . . as I look at it though . . . .it probably looks very bad to have an illegal Camillus knife and two semi-auto magazines on your desk. eh? |

Court, you have a veritable "Man's Nest" going on there. I take it the wife has banished you to the basement? Skinner, is that ham equipment? |

yes it is. all Ten Tec equipment made in TN. My other passion related to Ham Radio is old telegraphic keys and sounding equipment, straight keys and semi automatic bugs. Mostly McElroy keys but also other makes. Here are some awaiting restoration and return to service.

I have an AC Voltmeter that was last calibrated in 1917. On the desk at work is an output shaft, second gear, and a cam from an M2 Cyclone The pen and ink caught my attention more then the magazines or knife... Fountain pens, like air cooled motors, are an acquired taste that ends up being remarkably hard to give up. |

"My geekdom knows no bounds." You know what, I'm convinced that anything that keeps a persons mind active and is a stress-free (relatively) activity that you enjoy, there is real value in. I'm getting old enough not to care what other people think. For myself, there is few things more satisfying than a clean, tight-fitting, well-executed hand-framed wood structure. It just seems that there are fewer and fewer "real craftsmen" carpenters. You really don't want to get me started on wood floors...4th generation of the business and all. Oh yeah, on my desk, a section of laser-cut maple leaf inlay for a border in a floor and a 25th anniversary patch. |

I like Court's dainty lamp. Couldn't you get one made out of the crushed skull of your fallen foe or something? Somehow with that lamp, I can't help but sense the place smells like potpourri. |

Fountain pens, like air cooled motors, are an acquired taste that ends up being remarkably hard to give up. Ah yes, pens... I have just a few I have an rare original Keith Haring fountain pen. They never made that many of these. It is not the greatest writing instrument. I also have a Graf von Faber-Castell roller ball pen. By far my favorite is my basic Retro 51 pen. I have horrible handwriting, basically my hand shakes This pen is made out of solid stainless steel it is EXTREMELY heavy. The weight of it balances out my writing. After finding this pen, I bought 2, and I wish I had purchased more, but they stopped making them in 2000. I search ebay from time to time for another.

>>>>The pen and ink caught my attention more then the magazines or knife... I have an affinity for old fashioned fountain pens . . . . shame I don't have Mary Beth Laboda sitting on the other side of the desk to dip her pony tails in the ink . . you actually spotted the ink well? . . . DUDE ! That's actually a LeGrande roller ball on the desk and a Mont Blanc ink well below the Mac. I'm searching for another Pelikan M800. I'm a light nut and have lamps all over . . . halogen track above and a deck of fluorescents . . . looks cool to watch your self in shades on the webcam! We are TOTAL geeks . . . . I also keep an entire book case of physics, math, econ, accounting, law and chemistry . . . I am being forced, by one of the Elf's at East Troy, to read my first novel and I am fighting it all the way. (Message edited by Court on March 22, 2009) |

With the plastic still on the shade I just thought your wife was a little anal retentive and that was HER contribution to the man cave. |

My magazine is in the pistol on the desk and there is a 51" highwheel bike on it too. Those to a buckmark or ruger? |

What's illegal about the knife? You can buy switchblades here in Florida. Is it a local thing? |

I keep a bottle of Rat Bastard Root Beer there to act as a flag holder for the little American flag. I have a form-fitting aluminum foil hat and a plastic toy soldier with his head on a bamboo skewer (you had to be here that day) Foil hat also fits the hard hat too. No cameras allowed at work or I'd take a shot. |

On my work desk there is a small stereo (cannot work without music!), a Fender Custom Shop calendar (today is a Guild Aristocrat with Woody Blues junior Amp), and a framed photo of Vamps and I on our wedding day Usually there is some sort of model car or bike sitting on my desk too... last one was a 1:43 '70 Charger but I took it home a couple of weeks ago... I'm looking for a bike model to go on my desk... |
