Ok, So I live in Guam. I work for military HD sales and also sell Buell. I have never owned a Buell and always wanted one. So here we go. I found a 2007 Buell XB9R sitting in Vallejo CA for a guy who was stationed in the desert, however he had to cancel for whatever reason so I ended up getting the bike shipped from Vallejo, CA to here in Guam. When the bike arrived, it was taken to Guam Harley-Davidson where they performed a "pre-delivery inspection" on the bike before it was delivered to me. Upon taking delivery and starting it it was having problems staying on. I would have to constantly open up the throttle and when I eventually let go of the gas, it would flutter out. Now, I have no doubt the Vallejo CA dealership was displaying this Buell as it had been there well over a year but my question is what is potentially wrong with the bike? Bad spark plugs, bad gas or does it simply need a tune up? Any help or advice would be greatly needed and also, Guam is hot as hell so if anyone has any advice for riding a XB9R in seriously hot climate, adjustments etc, please feel free to hit me back. Fouled plugs? it happens easily enough. If I start mine, rev it then shut it down without a good 10 minute ride I'm looking at f'kd plugs in the morning. I can ride them clean in a few miles. But for a dealer demo, replace the plugs and give her an italian (american?) tune up with some techron, premium and 5k+ fun. For keeping cooler, I highly recommend getting your headers coated in ceramic. | ||

intake gasket leak? spray carb cleaner around the area and see if the engine speed changes at all..... | ||

fuel system clogged? If it sad for 2 years then that would be a good place to look. | ||

Can the Harley dealership help you out? You have a 2-year warranty on that bike. | ||

i would assume the fuel had to be drained to ship it there but i dont really know. i would suspect the plugs though. take it to the dealer. its brand new and full warrenty. you should be able to hear that its only running on one though. or if your brave once youve had it started for a minute just check the headers and see if both are good and warm. | ||

Another possibility is the idle is just set too low. You would need ECM spy or a service tool see where it is though. But you could try turing the idle adjustment screw. Its a thumb screw located next to the air scoop on the left side. Idle should be ~1010 RPM | ||

TPS calibration? if a plug is not fouled. | ||

start at the plugs then do the rest if it was a demo I doubt the fuel is bad and I would wager the people demoing the bike beat hell of it and blipped the throttle on cold starts and shut it down to quickly anyway TPS reset if the plugs don't do it also you can raise the idle but be careful with that | ||

Make sure the idle and the TPS are both set properly before you do anything else. Keith | ||

Also, if it was shipped from a different location, it may take a few miles for it to adjust to the new elevation. Ride it for awhile and see if it gets better. Had this happen when I shipped my XB from Kansas to Colorado. Big elevation change. Once it adjusted, it ran fine. | ||

Getting the bike back from the dealer today. I haven't spoken to the dealer yet as to what the deal was but I sincerely appreciate all the advice and look forward to getting the bike back. After all, it only has 18 miles on it and it never was a demo, just a bike that had a name on it for 2 years and eventually canceled. Thanks Guys! |
