Just curious... When starting from a stop or low speed and pushing hard in a straight line, are you redlining every shift? Shifting at 6 grand? And when riding hard in the twisties what kind of rev's are you carrying through the twisties and upwards as you exit. Reason I ask is I didnt think you'd need to use the upper rev's to much from the way people talk about the low range torque but I felt on my XB12R test ride like it was pretty weak under 3,000rpm... Just wondering if people ride these things like its a jap bike, just lower revs (still in the upper rev's when compared to the max...) |

I'd think you'd want to shift as you pass the apex of your torque curve. Take a look at a XB12 dyno and see for yourself. None of the Buells are too happy that low in the range (they should RUN just fine, but they won't have the instant-oomph that you'd get from being higher in the range to start with). For cruising, many people seem to prefer to be around 4K - and that's in the meat of the torque curve on a 12 so it has some get up and go when you twist the throttle. |

strait line-shift just before redline. Enter a corner at 4500, much higher will force u to shift in the corner and too little rpm won't give u much engine braking ability which i find useful if i need it in a corner. Just be light on the throttle it has alot of power at 4500! torque is only useful when It's transfered to the wheel; the power at the wheel as much greater at 7000rpm in 1st gear than 5500 in 2nd. This is why crotch-rockets beat us in the long run! |

It especially feels like you're short shifting after coming off a high revving jap bike. After riding the 1125 at Buell demo day, I was constantly bumping the rev limiter on my '04 Lightning until my mental 'rev sensor' had a chance to recalibrate |

From what I've seen, XB engines aren't happy unless they're between 3500 and redline, which gives you a whopping 3000 rpm range to work in. Anywhere else and it's stumbling or hitting the rev limiter. Maybe they should have come with a simpler on/off switch instead of a throttle? I'm being overly harsh, of course, but seriously, they have a very small happy spot. ~SM (Message edited by Swordsman on March 09, 2009) |

Thanks guys sounds like I was expecting power to be more around 2000 until my test ride and hearing what you guys had to say! Thats fine, the short range... I like a ride that requires some work... My fully automatic super sport is just not that fun when you can speed in 1st gear on the interstate . |

Most times on my 12, I am at at least 3500, through the twistys, I don't redline (usually), but very rarely am I below 4k. That said, once moving I am almost never down in 1st gear, 2nd/3rd is where I spend most of my time (when riding twistys), still plenty of poop down low, and more than enough speed up top for any road I've come across. |

4000 is nice sweet spot. Wound up enough to go at the twist of the wrist, or let off and slow pretty quickly.

Cool video! Sounds like 4 grand is a good place to be... That video made me so so excited to take a buell up into the twisties! |

Sifo, come hate me in person , and play in my backyard. That's just one of the roads, there are plenty more, that are even more twisted. Weekend after this one is March Badness 6, held at T.W.O. literally down the road from where that video was shot. We have people come from as far north as Canada, and as far west as Texas or further. It's going to be a hell of a weekend! http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/406 2/432259.html?1236706921 This is Wolf Pen Gap, my favorite. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/37/ 251514.html?1175565596

My baby's still in the living room waiting for the new rizoma bars and ins. sticker. Damn soon though! Beautiful B.C. has all that and more, it's just covered in snow and gravel right now. Rubber side down guys, have a great day! |

What does the 3%ers mean? I've seen that before. |

Back in 2003 or 04, 04 I think. Buell Motor Company represented 3% of Harley-Davidson Motor Company's profit. So when it came time to name our BRAG club, we decided on the 3%er's BRAGging Rights Club. Since that was a bit of a mouthful, it got shortened to The 3%ers.

I love the roads in NE GA. Haven't had the chance to go up there on the Buell yet. I've ridden six gap on a bicycle plenty of times however. 55mph down Hogpen passing cars is a rush that can't be described. Do you guys ever head up Brasstown? It's only ~3ish miles, but holy hell it's steep! |

The following works for me. Your results may vary. For general cruising 3,000 to 4,000 rpm. For spirited riding 4,000 and above. For even more spirited riding/racing 4,500 to 7,000. |
