Went out for a ride on the 98 S1W today... While returning home, the exhaust noise changes. I stop and find the rear header pipe has completely broken off where it welds to the collector pipe. Wife and the race van to the rescue!!! Anyone know where I can get an S1W header pipe? (Message edited by Paint shaker on March 12, 2009) |

Find a good TIG welder. Header removed from the bike of course. If you were in my area it would be about a $20.00- $25.00 job. |

It would have to be a very good welder, as it broke apart right at the same spot as the front header pipe. I don't think there is any way to weld there. Tim, Thanks for the offer. I'll try and find a stock one on Ebay. If not, I'll see if Paul can get me one. BTW, I'ss see you at the CCS race at Jennings. |

If the welder can see it can be repaired. |

Mark it first, *then* take it off. Put a couple sharpie marks on it - a single one in one spot, on both sides of the break; a double in another spot. Helps make sure you have it aligned properly when it's being welded. +1 - if they're worth their salt, they can fix it. |

I did the same thing with my S1, take the time and go get it welded it may not be a pretty as before but they can be fixed. Then send it out to get polished, ceramic coated, or do header wrap. I did the header wrap turned out better then new, the pipe is more rigid and I like the wrapped look. Good luck. |

Header in above link will not work for a S1W. It is for a 99 or newer.. |

I though S1W's had the 2.5" collector. Here's a 2" then: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/STAINLESS-EXHAUST-H EADER-BUELL-XTREM-LIGHTWEIGHT-3LB_W0QQcmdZViewItem QQcategoryZ35573QQitemZ300300036522 You guys make this too easy. |

I checked EBay.... Nothing that would fit on there. Brin, that is an XB header. I'll see if I can find a welder around here to do it. |

Brin, the headers are different. The S1W & 98 S3T had a 2 1/2" Collector header with a rear pipe that ran over the frame. Like in the picture below In '99 they changed the header rear pipe to run behind the frame. A 99+ header WILL NOT work on a pre 99 bike. |

I heard of some "massaging" the 99 and later headers into the 98 and earlier models. Meh, i didn't know. But there is't much on ebay. Figured I'd post what I could find, lol. (Message edited by brinnutz on March 13, 2009) |

hey wilson, with some "massaging" a straight pipe will work!! lol just funnin ya!!! yeah, i tried a late model tuber pipe on my 97 S3, no work!! maybe with some pounding , but would rather not do that. keep hunting, you will find either a stock 2.5" or a race pipe that will work. even though they are getting harder to find. |
