Wondering if anybody has the tank bag. Just got one and it fits a little loose. There isn't any way of tightening the attachment straps. I was considering cutting the rear strap/loop and rethreading it so it can be cinched down. Any suggestions? | ||

I've had one for 3 months now.Was very tight initially had difficulty clipping the lower assembly back on at times. Its looser now, took it off a few days ago to discover the eyelets have started to stretch/tear as they are not re-inforced. The mod to the rear sounds good for your situation. I suggest re-inforcing the holes before they can deform.  | ||

The one for my M2 was loose, I just z-folded the tail end strap and stitched across it a few times to shorten it by about 1/4". Fits fine now. | ||

I have had one for about 10 months on mine... yes... is does seem to be loose with a little shifting right to left more than anything... and I have noticed some minor scuffing on the air box cover... which may show more on the black ones... I think if it is cinched down more you will accelerate the "eyelets" stretching/deforming sooner. When it becomes a problem... I intend to replace the bolt through end of the mounting system with heavier nylon and start with smaller eyelets... as I think the eyelets holes are larger than they need to be... thus weakening that mounting point... and allowing the stretch/deforming problem. I have seen someplace where a guy epoxied thin aluminum square onto the mounting straps... where the mounting bolt rested against the aluminum and the nylon side made contact with the airbox cover. I don't intend to ever not have a tank bag... as I am such a pack rat... I may even do away with the factory mounting system and straps and solidly mount the bag with bolts and fabricated thin aluminum strapping in the bag to bolt through... eliminating all movement... and possibility of someone unclipping the bag and carrying the whole thing off. I have a tail bag on mike 9S also... and that mounting system was improved by replacing the elastic strap with a nylon strap that fits under existing under seat screws. Nice bags... poor mounting system... but probably the best that could be done fast... and to work with what little the XB allows for attachment with the unique frame/chassis. | ||

I too had the problems you guys list above. I solved them on my 9S by bonding thin aluminum sheet stock over the straps where tank cover fastener passes through and then re-drilling the holes. BTW, I neglected to mention that I placed some Saran Wrap underneath my tank bag and it prevented the scratching of the soft plastic tank cover. Keith | ||

Mine has been tight since I got it. But I have the airbox cover on mine, too. The rear mounting strap is crap, I didn't think the T strap was long enough to connect to the two bolts. I've left the straps on full time even if the bag is off and they've stiffened up a little from getting wet and then drying out. I think the straps should have come with metal grommets to prevent the holes from warping/tearing. Mine haven't torn yet, but I can see that it will probably happen. I haven't experienced any scuffing cause that sucker ain't moving. By the way, the bag makes a nice EMS First Responders bag. After I came back from the Torque Fest, I got all the gear in there I could ever want...well, sorta. | ||

There is a company in WA,USA that makes luggage carrier ( Bike pack system ) for the XB. Try www.cycleventure.com Great for long trips. They are custom made for over 750 models of motorcycle. They also have a picture of one installed on an XB on their site. Looks great and no part of the rack or luggage will touch the paint of your bike. | ||

Yes I looked at the Ventura system, it has a very good name in Australia, I like to travel light though and most of the time with nothing but the clothes I'm wearing, the Ventura is 43litre or 60 litre over here and the bag I bought is only 18 litre. Just wanted something light/waterproof/durable to strap on for the occasional weekend away/camping/whatever. If I need more space I can strap the bag down on top of the sleeping bag, also in the pic the side pockets and top are still empty. | ||

Got the ventura system on mine too. Great product custom fit to bike, easy to fit (quick) no mods or adjustments needed. Options of high bar for bags or grab handle attachment. Can carry 90-120 litres solo. I am very pleased with it. Add the tank bag to the equation and i can go long distance touring. Now about that fuel capacity...........And a more comfortable seat............ | ||

Skully just wondering what type of epoxy you used to bond the Al. to the strap. I've tried 2 different types of two part epoxy, and they don't seem to bond too well. Thanks for the info, it looks like the best solution. | ||

I used a two part epoxy manufactured by Lord Chemical Corporation, PN 320/322. If you can't find it, you might try one of the JB weld epoxies. Surface prep is important. I scuffed up the aluminum substrate with 220 or 180 grit sandpaper. I then cleaned both the aluminum and nylon strap with acetone and allowed both to dry. Wonder why Ventura doesn't have a pic of on on the XB-R? I have seen one on a bike, but he left to quickly for me to inspect it closely. I was probably most interested in the rack. My back pack only fits 2 sixers. | ||

Damn why when I try to change the font does it wipe the whole message!!!!! Okay second time around shorter version. Took me half an hour going carefully. Two L brackets bolt into existing holes for rear footpeg upper mount(acsessed under seat next to battery) and up under the tail. Supplied longer bolts replace originals. Four bolts to mount system. Nothing needs drilling or modifications at all. can be returned to original in half an hour. As long as you keep the original bolts.......... Only takes a few moments to change upper from sport rack, to touring, to grab handle. Clear precise instruction with kit. All hardware fits properly.
