Some time ago, after replacing a snapped front mount my M2 developed high frequency weaving at 100mph +( we call them tank slappers in UK ). Over the last twelve months I have changed headstock bearing, fork bushes and wheel bearings, after each , I thought the problem was solved, butI still experienced the slapper occasionally. Last week I had to change a knackered front rubber isomount, I thought this must surely be the problem, but it wasn't. This set me off , with the help of my wife , shaking, flexing and generally levering anything I thought could possibly allow enough play to cause the tank slapper. The whole problem is coming from the front tie bar rose joint, it allows the swinging arm to flex the left hand rear isomount. With the play temporarily removed the bike is rock steady right up to 130, at which point the wind was tearing my head off ,and self preservation took over, and I slowed down,a much happier man, until the next wee problem my M2 develops. Gas - Thanks for the info. I had a pretty bad head shake last summer (started around 115+mph). Part of it turned out to be a cupped front tire. I just put new Sport Attacks on and haven't had the problem yet. But I haven't been over 110mph either. If I still have the problem I will be checking out the tie bar. You are talking about the one in front of the motor just above the oil filter correct? |

Yes, It wasn't so much wear on the joint, as corrosion between the ball and the socket, allowing free play. Here in Scotland the roads are spread with salt for 5 months of the year, and the joint catches the spray. Lee |
