Dude, somebody graffitied up your Ducati tank when you weren't looking! What's up with that?

What makes the buell more fun? Just curious, never ridden a monster, not a huge fan of them.

I'd imagine its a bit faster and higher reving but without as much grunt... your bike is a 12, right?

I think that maybe you have been spoiled with the torque of the Buell (Buell=84ft lbs, Duc=42ft lbs.) what a difference. I have to admit that I have a Buell and a Duc, and I like the Duc better (not based on power). My Buell is an Xb12ss and the Duc is a 999. The Xb is a great handling bike with lots of low end torque, problem is that with that big Harley motor the thing feels like a pig when you are trying to transition in tight corners. I constantly feel like I have to make adjustments to my lines. The Duc on the other hand is planted. When you pick a line it just stays there, no more effort required. I also have a SV650 and I have noticed that it also feels better to me than the Buell. Both bikes are just easier to ride fast. Do not get me wrong I really love the Buell. I love the attention the Buell gets, I like that I am not riding the same bike as everyone else. I think all the innovation which has gone into the bike is spectacular and would love to see other companies find a revolutionary thinker like Eric Buell (instead of copying him). Maybe Tamburini and Eric Buell could get together...... could you imagine what the two of them could do? They would destroy the rest of the motorcycle world. I am ecstatic that Buell has adopted the Rotax motor. I think that that could truly be the salvation of Buell. I will be very interested in Daytona this year. If buell fares well it could make our bikes a lot more common.

Feels like a pig? Wow, I felt the Buell handled more like a dirtbike than a street bike. It likes to be thrown around, but I suppose upgrading from a 17yr old bike will do that to someone.

How can you compare a Duc999 to a XB? not even same class. Duc999 $18K+, damn near race cert, tons more spent on R&D. I even hate comparing R1, GSXR and suck The RR/R whatever= race replica. If comparing a Duck999 to anything go ride a XBRR and compare it to that. At the very least do it against the 1125r

The torque is huge, obviously. unlike dobr, I feel like even though my Buell may be a bit more portly, the front end geometry more than makes up for it. And it's never felt wishy washy to me in any corner. The duc, did get squirrelly from time to time. For my money, the Buell is a better package.

Have you had your suspension double checked to make sure its for your weight? Have you tinked with it a bit beyond there?

From what I am learning the buell is extremely sensitive to suspension adjustment, 1/4 turn makes a big difference and once you get it right it handles great, its hit and miss.

Also what year is your bike and what tires are you running? I know the dunFLOPS that used to be stock rubber were said to be the worst tire ever ridden.

I was just never in love with my monster. The Buell, on the other hand, I cherish.

I paid less than $10 grand for the Duc. $18k+, I think you are talking about a 999r, way different machine, but if you want to pay me that kind of money consider the bike sold. The actual cost difference between the two is fairly negligible $2-3k. As for what to compare the Duc against I am not comparing performance, I am comparing handling. Further if you will note I also say that my SV650 is also easier to ride. Is that a comparison we are more comfortable with? The Duc does compare to a 1125r pretty well, but that bike is also two years newer than the Duc. Nuf said.

Both my Buell and the XB are 2006 models. I have both suspensions fairly well set to my weight. I run Pilot power 2cts' on both bikes. I think I'm an average rider with pretty good abilities.

I do not think the Buell is "wishy washy", quite the opposite, the Buell is fine in the corners very predictable, it just takes more work (rider input on the bars) to stay on line. I feel that when transitioning quickly from one corner to another (think Wolf Pen Gap Rd. for those familiar) the Buell feels heavy and I have to work to get from one side to the other. My Buell is the SS, so it has a longer wheelbase than the standard S or R models, but I have ridden both other models and have the same gripe. I wish, like many here before me have expressed, that Buell would put the Rotax motor in XB form, I think the lesser weight would transform the bike into an absolutely phenomenal machine.

I think he was referring to the MSRP of the bike when new, which would have been ~$18k for a base 999.

I figured that, but since I did not buy either new the cost difference was much less. Again I am not comparing the two bikes to each other. I was just making a comment about my perception of the handling and fun factor and how it differed from the original poster's experience.

Never heard of an XB9 being described as having grunt, especially down low in the rev's but I guess compared to a 620 duc maybe...

I have heard the XB9 is pretty sedate at anything but the top 2000rpm's, while the XB12 is muscle all over.

Makes me think more about whether to get an XB9SX or an XB12Ss/Scg.

THe 620 is such a tiny little machine it can't compare to the XB.Sorry, but the 620 is really an entry level machine.

With 2 Buells and a Duc superbike,i'm in love with both brands.

Congrats anyway on the Duc purchase

"the 620 is really an entry level machine."

Things sure have changed, my first bike, in '70, was a BSA 650 Lightning, considered a real fire-breather at the time.

With my XB12S, I am on a roll, maybe get a Vincent Lightning to stay with the theme.
