LimitedX1, I was reading about the Taurus 1911 and it seems that the frames/slides/barrels are hand fitted and kept together throughout the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, they aren't GI specs like the gunshop said, but the major parts all swap over from GI guns. It's still a sweet deal.
I still really like the XDs and it appears that I'll be spending more than I had originally intended to buy a quality 1911. I'll be trading my Sigma in on it and I may be able to get a discount though. I may end up with a 4" XD and a 3" XD, but the Glocks are also really cheap.
i love me some xd's as well, what makes my decision between glock and xd is the grip on the xd it just feel awesome in my hand, where the glock just feels like a 2x4.
no the taurus 1911 is not gi spec and quite frankly has everything a target kimber does, but my point was that springfield gi models are getting more expensive everyday, so you might as well throw another 100 bucks in the pot and get all the stuff that comes on the taurus
LimitedX1, that was great. See my response up there "I tried making friends with a Glock and it was like holding a 2x4. I just haven't been able to get into the Glocks."
Handling both guns side by side, the XD feels like it's constructed better
Another thing that makes the XD's a better gun over Glock's is the natural angle of the pistol grip - has the same angle as the 1911. Keeps a natutal line with your arm when firing. I could never get into the Glock's either - P.O.S. in my mind.
Thumper do you have any friends that work with law enforcement, I know some good deals can be had through them. If you dont mind a 2nd gun. I have got some real good deals that way.
Glocks angle of grip is actually the same as the XD's.
I too hated glocks, HATED them!! I shot one years ago and just absolutely hated it. I heard over and over how tough they were and just couldn't bring myself to buy one. Then a year ago or so I started thinking of getting my concealed license. I really wanted the XD. I shot one and liked it. I was impressed with it. I then shot a Glock and was equally impressed. The Glocks are thinner, easier to conceal with a inside the pants holster. I also got a Military/Law Enforcement (all you need is an ID it is open to both Mil and LE and I even believe EMS workers) I bought a brand new Glock 26 with two mags, cleaning kit, carrying case for just a hair over 400. I took it home and shot it and was overly impressed with the accuracy of such a small weapon. The safety is kinda a sore point for some people but a revolver doesn't have one either and I like it for a concealed weapon that I never have to worry about the safety being on or off. If you are looking for a 1911 then a Glock is not the gun for you but if you are considering XDs I would take a harder look at Glocks.
I have a Springfield Arms that I like pretty well...but my favorite is my Glock 21sf...I have small hands and the Glock fits so much better...either way, I have massive defence power
^^^^glocks thinner than an xd....? what by 1/16" common man. Glock triggers are also less than to be desired....
the new XDM would be even easier than glock to conceal, it now has an angle cut slide!!!!
i shoot my buddies glock everytime i go to the range, i cant ever get used to it, just feels bulky and odd in your hand, the xd grip like somebody stated before has a natural line of site with your eye when you hold it up automatically! the glock will not do the same
hey, thinner is thinner. When you are going to an inside the pants type carry every little bit counts. Add to that they are all black and it makes it a pretty nice concealed weapon. I bought a $15 mag extender to give me a couple extra rounds and make the hand grip accept all of my fingers. I was just stating that I at one time hated Glocks too but this little guy is awesome. That and the angle is exactly the same. The ergo on the XD is different but the angle for that line of site is exactly the same.
I bought a Glock 34 only 'cuz it was a really good deal and my friend needed the $. It's way to big (grip) for my small hands. But I will say it performs perfect. No jams at all. I have my Mauser M2 that is my conceal gun, not that I ever really carry it. But if I had to it works well.
Picked up a G 30 w/2mags at a local gun show for $425. What a spanking deal! Absolutely love it and it shoots as accurate as a $1200 Kimber I rented and is far more reliable (the Kimber jammed 1x every other mag same ammo). Glocks may be ugly but they're is a reason 90% of the LE in the US carry them...
I went the expensive route on the 1911 and wouldnt trade my Kimber Eclipse custom II for any other. I tested Springfields, taurus, and a few others. Just had the best feel and the nicest looking pistol with the Kimber.
i just bought a taurus 85 ultra light titanium 38 with ported barrel!!! woohoo is it a joy to carry! fits in any jacket pocket i own!!!! perfect for scoot rides anywhere!
