Sooooooooo, I have been riding around Nashville's many interstates (before my uly clutch grenaded) running errands and what not.

There I see what I see every year @ about this time. Lots of outta state trucks/suvs hauling big Harleys and heading south. (Daytona "bike" week) I say about 80% of these bikes are "Touring bikes". Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

If I see another Ultra on the back of a truck I'm going to scream.

Saw the same thing as I rode out of Sturgis on opening day last year. And they didn't have the excuse of the cold weather.

Don't be hatin'.

If you had a prostate the size of a grapefruit and hemorrhoids big enough to put a shoe on, you'd trailer that bastard down too.

Plus, the gut blubber gets sore from flapping in the breeze when you ride more than 100 miles at a time.

if they are going through Chicago this evening, they had better be either in a trailer or in the back of a truck because we are having snow flurries as I type!

yea, i've seen goldwings on the trailer too, although not as many as harley's. i've had an ultra since Nov of 2000 and until i moved my stuff back to tampa from greenville back in sept, i never had my ultra on a trailer. i didn't have the time to ride it back before i started my new job.

Mike/Rpm4x4 just trucked his bike from Minnesota to the south to go riding, then trucked his bike back home.

Is he a pu$$y?

I think not. I think he's the effin' man for the ride he just accomplished.

If you've got a lot of time, and love riding in shit weather, knock yourself out and slab your Buell of choice cross-country to do a little riding.

If you don't have a lot of time, or hate riding in shit weather, or hate riding day after day of interstate, or just hate riding mega-miles in general, truck or trailer your bike to where you're going and have a ball.

It's all good.

yes here in MN we have about 10 inches of snow on the ground. I'm sure if i was not winter rpm would have just gone on the bike. Every year on the way to and from Sturgis. I see tons of tour bikes on trailers. and then they unload a couple of exits away from sturgis and ride the rest of the way, like under a 100 miles. I don't really get it. A big tour bike with all the bells and wistles, more decked out than my car, and their it is on the trailer.

there are plenty of valid reasons to truck or trailer: do ya wanna burn up all you vacation time slabbing to the destination? do ya wanna burn up the middle of your tire slabbing there? do you simply hate slabbing?

who gives a shit whether you trucked/trailered or not. is THAT what defines being a biker?

the first time I met and rode with IAMike I had just trucked my FJR from Cali to Arizona. Am I now "not worthy" because I chose to avoid two days of slabbing 100+ degree interstate for two days of mountain riding?

You guys kill me. Y'all should start a local chapter of the RRMC: Righteous Riders Motorcycle Club.

I hope when I grow up I can be a "real" rider like the rest of you.

It's all good? Maybe for the "motor company". You should see the number of "touring bikes" coming into town now, in trucks and on trailers with Florida tags on them. A whole culture of wanna be "bikers" who "tour" between Main street and Destination Ormand Beach. One might see an occasional brave one venture away from the herd.
A sport bike, a Rebel, a CL77, or a vintage bike, ect, I could picture in a truck or trailer. Bad weather, yeah, that could makes sense too, I guess.

Jerry,
I guess you didn't realize that when we all met up in Arizona that BluzM2 & I had trailered down to Show Low, then rode. We had decided exactly what you stated.
We have a guy from the town I live in that trailers his Harley and golf cart to Sturgis every year. Supposedly he just parks the bike out front of his camp site then rides around in his golf cart. Those posers are the one we are poking fun at!
Heck, when Drew & I went up to Newfoundland we trailered the 1,100mi. to NY, saving 3 days each way of riding and were fresh when we took off on the 2-lane roads.
It's just always funny to see a touring bike being trailered someplace.

I went to the Daytona event that is in Oct (Biketober Fest I think). I rode from Maryland. I saw two other bikes on the road, the rest in trailers. It was cold and it rained on me from FL to the SC state line line on the way back. While I was down there I felt like I rode my bike to trailer week. On the way back I would have paid a lot for a trailer or truck.

I did get the S1 on the track (my first and last time) I also picked up a ticket in SC and had some bike problems the last 100 miles.

I see touring bikes in trailers going to Sturgis every year. A lot of NM and CO plates. I also see a fair amount of Sporties making the trip. It does not matter to me what they do, I could care less.

I trailered my 98 S1W to MBV. I would like the person that can ride that beast 1400 miles in two days.

I rode my bare ass neeked HP2 enduro to Daytona in a pouring gale all the way last year. We rented a car while we were there cuz it was raining most of the time, then turned in the car and rode home.

We could come up with some definitions here:

Poser - The motorcyclist, whether a cruiser type or sportbiker (or maybe even a Bueller?), that looks the part but only rides in town, to the shop or the bar. Criticizes any other type of biker than himself. Won't ride in the rain or cold....

Wanna-be - The guy that wears all the Harley clothes but doesn't own a bike.

I have a lot of fun teasing guys for the same thing that I do. Life would be boring otherwise. Tramp was one person who comes to mind that was always jumping all over someone who didn't agree with his style of bike or riding. He may be a great guy and such, but came off the wrong way on the web.

I live very near Hwy 27 in central florida...I can sit on my balcony and watch herds of bikes coming and going this time of year...the only thing negative I have to say about the majority of them is...........It astonishes me that so very few wear any form of protective gear....all you are REQUIRED to wear in Florida is "eye protection"....provided you have the obligatory large insurance policy if you are stopped by the law, and are of age...the wearing of safety gear is "encouraged" but not required...

But I will admit the ones that make me cringe the most are the ones on lowered 'busas wearing nothing but muscle tees, sandals, and shorts...Hmmmmm...stupid is as stupid does.

Some may believe it is fine to ride without gear...for those that believe so...I ask...have you ever SEEN someone that crashed with no helmet and had their complete jaw literally ripped off??

I have been down at speed and thankfully suffered little thanks to excellent equipment....i'll get off my soapbox now.

Look at it this way:
At least all the folks you think are less biker than you are still buying bikes and (some) gear, to help keep it affordable for all of us.

BONUS: I would rather have all those big bikes with questionably skilled riders parked or in a trailer, than in the way just when I get to the really twisty sections!

I may not want to ride with those guys, but I will still given them some credit for at least owning a bike.

One of the scariest rides I have been on was a charity toy run in WNC a year ago. I had not thought much about it in advance, but riding in double file next to guys you don't know, who may not have ridden since last years toy run, is a great way to make you look hard for escape routes. This past year, I just gave them the toy up front, and planned a separate ride for the day.

We are too few to be sub-dividing our little kingdom, in the face of all the pressures and threats we face.

BTW, there is 4" of fresh snow at my house in NC right now, so I would not want to be riding back from Daytona today.

I wish i could ride, I have to fly cuz I gotta get to Anchorage Alaska on the 7th for another shoot.

Daytona to Anchorage on a bike in less than 24 hours. Now that would be a ride.

Ain't happening by bike. It is 4800 miles from Anchorage to Daytona, that means you would need to average 200mph for 24hrs. Only way thats doable is if you got a Hyabusa with a 4000 gallon gas tank in tow, and you don't get stuck in traffic.

Froggy, they could drop you out of the space shuttle upon re-entry, and you could cover that distance with time to spare.

The landing would just suck.
