So today I had another defective rear turn signal replaced on my bike at the dealer. all when well till i hopped on the bike and took off for home. I noticed the speedo and gear indicator not working (speedo stuck at 0). so i turned around and they found the horn fuse was blown which i guess also operates the speedo sensor because replacing that fixed my speedo problem. so about 10 miles down the road the fuse blows again.. Anyone have any idea where the short circuit might be taking place?? I'd appreciate any help, thanks |

With your dealer. Fuse's blow for a reason I had a similar issue on my Firebolt fuel pump. They just switched the fuse not wondering why it blew, so It blew again on the highway the next time. Shame on them. Sorry I don't know where yours is. |

Do you have any mods to your bike? Have you done anything to the LH switch group? How many miles on your bike? WHich model r or cr? IIRC someone had an issue with the wires on the LH cluster shorting to the bars and a piece or 2 of tape fixed it, just a start. |

Check your wires at the horn itself. Its a good chance that it is rubbing on the horn bracket itself and shorting out. The horn fuse is tied in with the brake lights. I'm not sure if it has any thing to do with the speedo. But check that area down by the horn and that will be a good place to start. If that wire is making contact with the bracket you may want to solder a piece on to make the wire longer. Hope this helps. |

my bike is an 08 1125R, almost 3 months old around 1000mi. It has the 09 cluster installed on it but other than that it's bone stock. I'm about to give the bike a good once over before i bring it in the dealership, thanks for all the tips so far. |

alright so i gave it a quick look over and the horn does seem to have a wire that's so tight against the horn bracket that it might be cutting into the wire so i pulled it away and tried to get a little bit of electrical tape in between the wire and the bracket, not as easy as it seems since the wire barely has enough slack to reach the plug. but i think i got it covered enough. so i put a new fuse in and so far so good.. thanks for the help guys |

I paraphrase from Al Lighton's 2nd paradigm of motorcycle trouble shooting: "When something breaks look at the last repair that was done" When I had my bike in for a turn signal replacement, I got it back with all kinds of problems. Turned out that the connector (left side turn signal wire) was improperly re-connected and touched the subframe intermittently. Remove the tail and look at the wires and connectors they had to touch when the turn signal was replaced. Or have the dealer do it. |

Take a look at the horn wire down at the horn itself. I had a similar issue a while back and found that the horn wire was rubbing the aluminum radiator support, which incidentally has an edge sharper than my pocketknife, and had worn through the insulation. The wire is so short that there wasn't much to do but make a little bend to the horn bracket to relieve some of the tension and add a couple of wraps of electrical tape. No problems since. Hope that helps. |
