So after reading the other thread about the 2001 x1 that is not a true W. Am I correct in understanding that the 2002 model year was the only year for a true X1W ? I have a 2002 X1W and am wounder if anyone knows the production numbers on them and how meny lightnings total were made in 2002 ? Thanks |

Yea, i'm the one with the 01 x1. When I bought the bike, the guy told me it was a x1w. I think the person that sold it to me thought it was an x1w too. But some where along the line sombody put a phony x1w sticker on it. After a big go around, turns out 2002 was there first model year. Funny because at the time I had no idea of the difference between a x1 and x1w. It would have made zero difference in buying it or not. Nothing like looking stupid. But any way I found this awhile ago, but it makes no mention of the year. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/476 23/317580.html (Message edited by buelleaver on February 20, 2009) (Message edited by buelleaver on February 20, 2009) |

I bought mine site unseen from Kansas, had it shiped to me in North Carolina, that's when I was plesently suprised to see the little W on the decal. The guy just sold it as a 2002 lightning in white. Just a cherry on the cake. |

So what makes a X-1w better than my X-1? |

The plot thickens.. I really don't know.. I'm just repeating my understanding of what i've heard. My bike was an early 01 bike so maybe thats the difference. To the other post.. the difference is only Cosmetic.. |

>>>Am I correct in understanding that the 2002 model year was the only year for a true X1W ? That is accurate. >>>I dont believe this i have an 01 x1w and it is an x1w any x1w made in the last 4 month of 2001 is a x1w Thats why the have a 2001 specific parts catalog! Send me the part number of that catalog. I have every catalog ever printed and want to investigate. We'll get to the bottom of this. I have the build sheets, excel spreadsheets of every bike built, and when I get time I can sort through and see what's up. |

Dam Part number???? OK now im going to go see this parts book. I saw it on E-bay and my friend just picked it up, So further looking into is required as Court stated we will get to the bottom of this. Now you got me wondering, Mine says 2001 x1w on the title. I wonder if the parts book he just got is just a standard 2001 x1 parts book. COURT will know for sure and correct me if im wrong. EDIT: Well a Little more investigating and COURT is right I am wrong. There are no 2001 x1w's made Dam!! I have just read enough threads in the K.V. to prove it to myself. Sorry if i mislead anyone (Message edited by preybird1 on February 21, 2009) |

"about x1w, i heard there were only so many made w/blue pipes, jet hot only coated 700 something out of a thousand scheduled? or something to that effect." Does anyone know if the racekit exhaust were made in blue by the factory for these? Mine is blue but I don't know if it's factory or done locally. |

Buell really got into the limited editions somewhere around the late 90's. Not that their other bikes were huge runs but they actually started numbering gas caps and what-not. Carbon fiber (US and Japan, and somewhere in the archives are pics of the Jap CF thanks to 1313) red stripe, blue stripe, millenium... To my knowledge a limited ed. doesn't make it any more valuable from what I've seen on the bay and in books but right now it would take a small fortune to get my CF from me. There have been many a thread discussing production run numbers and years. |
