so i got my energy one extra plate kit in my x1 last night. that all went well and without a hitch. as i slide my primary cover back on i line up the shifter shaft and give it a good tap, what do ya know the shifter seal flips inside out as it goes on the shaft because i had already pressed the seal into the cover. so upon trying to remove the seal without damage....waaaaam stuck the screw driver straight through the rubber part of teh seal lol. my question is, was i supposed to wait to press the seal in after i got the cover on? as it sits now i have the thing completely back together and tight minus the shifter shaft seal, i hope i can slide it over the shaft and press it into the case now that its back together.......also is it easiest to run to a dealer and grab that seal rather than order it...... p.s. the energy one 15% spring doesnt seem that much harder to pull if any at all than stock.... havent rode it yet, but the couple of pulls in the garage felt just like stock |

I always install the seal last, right before reinstalling the shifter. It prevents what happened to you, and also avoids cutting the seal on the splines. Wrap the shifter shaft in electrical tape (Start at the inside, and work outwards) to cover the splines, and protect the seal. |

Funny, I have had my cover off five times and have never bothered to do anything with it. Perhaps the dealership replaced it when they did a tranny job top it some years back but I have never done anything at all with it. |

my gasket kit came with a new one and the spring inside of my stock oil seal was looking kinked, so i put it in before i put the cover back on, well the shift shaft jsut flipped it inside out when i put it back on, so to the store i go for another one and i will install it now that the cover is back on and tight, and not leaking i might add!!! |

Just reinstalled mine last night also, ironically enough. A 1/2" or 9/16" deep socket (can't remember which...smallest which will fit over the shaft) worked well to press the seal back into the cover. |
