Good lord. A 76 yamaha. It looks to have been parked outside a shed for most of its life. I cant imagine why its been having so many problems. I hope they make it too. | ||

It's a pretty facinating read as he is working through the problems. I wonder how many of us would try to make an old bike like that run again. I have a neighbor who has one of those that is a 2-stroke that he wants me to get running for him. I put him off last year but since he has stored my bikes for me over the winter I may be on the hook to try it this time around. All of the carb discussions were a pretty good learning experience. When my S3 had the injector problem it took me awhile to get in the trouble shooting mode, it had been so long since I had problems with a bike. | ||

I'm not sure of the year or model. He pulled it out of his barn last year because of the cost of gas. It's an air-cooled 2-stroke Yamaha with oil injection. Mechanically there may be hope. The tank is rusty but doesn't look bad. I like what the people helping the guy on ADVRdier told him to do with his rusty tank issue. Seca750 (Vanya) gave him great advice on his carb issues and I'll make sure that I follow up on that. It was funny how most of his problems were due to the rusty tank and loose head bolts (did I just give away the plot?). I was really impressed with the support most of the guys were giving him. I see that on Badweb most of the time and get frustrated with the occaisional poster who only wants to slam someone for trying something. I think he has gone into Mexico now so I am waiting to see how that comes out. It wasn't so good for my friend who came home without his XB9 but at least he is still alive. I tried to get him to do a writup on the Tale Section but he hasn't done it yet. | ||

I had an old XS650 that thing was a monster it vibrated so much you could pop it up on the center stand start rev it up and it would literely spin around in its own radius | ||

I'll lean on him again at our club meeting Tue. night. He had asked me to go down there with his group last October but I couldn't. He had a little crash by Copper Canyon and left the bike to go get x-rays at a hospital. When they got back.... well I don't want to ruin the story. | ||

It is definitely a good read. Brumbear, my wife and I bought a xs650 to learn on as well. I definitely agree-if they call a sportster a Milwaukee vibrator, those xs bike must be Japanese vibrators. | ||

I had a xs650. Called it a japanese Harley at the time. It vibrated like hell and didnt know if you would make back home. This was in 1979, 1980.But it did get great gas mileage around 69 mpg if I remember right. The gas tank was small and you could only go about 13 miles on reserve. Ask me how I know. Alot of electrical problems.Still have it I have thought about trying to get it running again and make a cafe racer out of it. | ||

If I start working on the Yamaha I'll make a Tale Section post out of it. One drawback I found to using my friend's farm pole shed to store bikes came about last year when I picked up my son's CBR1100XX from the storage to get ready for March Badness. I tried to start it to ride home. It wouldn't start, weak battery, so I rolled it up on the trailer and brought it home. After charging up the battery I gave it a shot. It cranked a few times and then lit up. There was a rattle in the exhaust and it didn't run very good but since it had been in storage all winter I didn't think too much of that. Then all of a sudden CORN, yes corn, started blowing out the pipes. He had a Two Brothers system on it and the damn mice had been using it for their winter corn storage. I bet there was at least 2 cups of corn in there and now it was all over my garage. I pulled the whole exhaust system off to make sure I got it all out. I decided next time I use his pole barn I'll plug the pipes.
