Today I took off on what was going to be a 200 miler and got about 50 miles into my ride when the check engine light came on and the engine almost quit. Both needles pegged then returned to normal briefly before doing it again. This happened 3 more times before I turned around and headed straight for my dealer. Once there the problem was diagnosed as a loose battery cable. These kinds of problems are owner responsibility and not warrantied. I'm now short $33 and a ride cut short due to lack of preventive maintenance. So, once in awhile check your battery connection or make that the first thing you do check if this happens to you. I will from now on. Lesson learned.

Don't feel bad Ulykan - I'm a major offender of not checking stuff. Because I ride every day, I usually just hop on the bike and go. The bad thing about this is that if something is going wrong gradually, you don't notice it until it's almost catastrophic. DAMHIK.

Before long (200+ mile) rides I usually check the tire pressure, oil, etc., but even then I don't check the battery cables! I just figure hey, if the pretty lights are lit, then it must be good!
