Hello to all who stop by. I have an XB12X and I love it. I do quite a bit of "off-pavement" riding and want to get my wife a bike. She has been riding since childhood, she knows what she's doing.
She is 5-5 and weighs 125 and a Ulysses is out of the question for her.
All XB bikes seem to have related architecture so my idea was a STT (or similar) bike with the seat assembly from a Uly.
Anyone ever hear of this or have thoughts?

+1 on the CityX.

Get some input from Cityxslicker on how to make it more 'mud friendly' for the 'inseam challenged' as well.

I seem to recall he's short as well, so picking his brains would be a good start.

what did you do to your seat cityslicker?
that thing looks thin!

Being short myself at 5'5" (but MUCH more then 125 LBS, haha)
I'd like to get a little lower too!

Ive had a "low" seat, but couldnt pass on a great deal for a select seat, which is really comfortable.

The seat was custom cut by a friend of mine, puts me an the balls of my feet both sides. He put rows of gel strips under it so it is plush all day, it is shaved quite a bit. Initially it was done with the idea to give the passenger more cushion... then I took the rear foot pegs off... she can ride her own.
That V in the Select seat will duct water right down your keister. If you dont ride in the rain, through puddles, across creeks, into streams, and down run gulleys, its a good seat, other wise your bum is gonna be drenched. I know, it was the donar seat for the custom job that is on there now.

There is a CityX that has been crossed with a Uly for sale in the Classifieds:

If you don't mind buying used, this might just be the answer.

My wife likes the bike in the picture on this thread but the government servers wont let me see the pics listed for the bike that for sale. She would like a 12 as opposed to the 9 for the sake of fuel capacity and we will put bags and a passengers on both bikes.

Either way that is what I had in mind and the bikes looks cool.

BTW, not for nothing but she also wants the "more powerful" bike as she thinks of it. She has wanted a "big" bike for a while and whatever Mama wants...........

You understand.

There is little difference to my butt dyno between the 9 and the 12.

I actually believe the 9 engine a better motor overall for smoothness.

Have her to ride both the 9 and the 12. I'd bet she will like the 9 motor.

Fuel economy numbers are almost identical for both motors. Egronomics are identical between two of the same model (XB12S and XB9S). Power is about the same. The 12 has more torque so it has longer legs so to speak for the highway, but the 9 revs higher and has a smoother power band. Gearing on the 9 is a little shorter than the 12 to compensate for the slightly lower torque. Fuel capacity, there is 2 versions of the XB frame (technically 3). The first one is the 3.8 Gallon frame. This is used by all XB9 models, and XB12S, XB12SCG, XB12R. The 2003-2005 versions were 3.3 gallons as they had the air intake coming through the frame. The second frame is the 4.4 gallon one used by the Ulysses, XB12SS, and XB12STT.

get the 9 now and save money. Then go BIG (bore/ stroke) later when the engine needs freshing up.
Then she will have even more power. then a stock 12.

The nine is actually better geared for running dirt. Go as ALL the uly guys that are going to the nine primary gearing...
And the more usable torque in the lower end is nice, your insurance rates are lower, and after 130 miles of dirt riding, you are ready to get off the bike anyways (it just happens to coincide with I need gas time) demo, demo , demo

Slicker, I didn't realize that 10 out of the several thousand Uly riders switched to XB9 gearing means that ALL of them did it! Wow! : )

no no , check your Venn diagram, its not that all of the uly guys are changing to the 9 gearing, its go ask ALL of the uly guys that have changed to the 9 gearing.
You will see that while the second group is indeed smaller, it is definitely a more biased sampling ; )

Carlos, I have both the XB9SX and the XB12X The City Cross is a 2005 and I have about 15,000 miles on it and that bike is the best running bike I have ever owned. I traveled on it did track days on it, etc. The only thing that I didn't like was when I came to a stop and my front wheel was slightly turned one way or the other....due to the short wheelbase you will find the city cross gives you instant feedback! I never dropped it but have come close a couple of times.

The 2007 Uly I ride the 12 is more buzzzzzy and the idle fluctuates I don't know why it goes from 1,500 to 2,000 rpm when warm. I'm 5'7 and I'm twinkle toes on the uly! I don't think I would even try if I was 5'5". Uly broke down on me in the first 10,000 miles. We'll see how it does this year. K

I think that the Uly seat assy. on the smaller bike would be the best combination. Does anyone have ideas about the racks? I was thinking about the Touratech system but I have also seen some very nice fabricated racks that would likely be cheaper and equally effective.
BTW, I am really glad I found this site, I have so many question and while the Harley Dealer guys are great you get a sense that you (as a Buell rider) are a second class citizen. So thanks to all of you.

partial to the caribous, so ugly and utilitarian that they just look at home on a dirty rugged filthy mud covered bike.

I've heard that the pelican bags are good. I haven't used them myself, but I've used
pelican dive lights and water tight cases for guns and cameras for years and they
they just plain old work. They stay water tight too.

They will support the weight of the bike, and escape with only scratches from trail gravity episodes. DAMHIK
