I am currently starting a new muffler project with the old latus concept. Using updated muffler technology and my fabrication and welding skills. I will post pictures as they come along. It shouldn't take but a couple of days to make the project work. I am waiting on the parts to come in, once that happens its on. I've got nothing better to do considering I live in northern indiana and all we have is a bunch of stupid snow. |

Did you find a discontinued edelbrock 5504? |

No i didnt. I am actually going with another edelbrock muffler. It could be a flop or a big hit. The new design number is 55768. who knows maybe i am just wasting money but heck its worth a shot! |

a little larger than the magnaflow, but may work. the magnaflow is nearly perfect size. http://www.clearlakeautomotive.com/usparts/magnafl ow/mufflers/mufflers-satin-stainless/satin-stainle ss-steel-muffler-magnaflow-performance-exhaust-111 48/prod_14987.html?ccUser= and a bit cheaper; http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autof ilter=1&part=MPE%2D11148&N=700+115&autoview=sku edelbrock; http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive_new/mc/exhaust /mufflers_app.shtml http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part= edl-55768 kevin, you'll have to let us know how it works. good luck, should be a fun project. |

it shouldnt be hard to do. maybe if the project turns out a success i could help others out with the same deal. i mean what is the worst that is going to happen? im out a few hundred dollars? the edelbrock is a little shorter i believe. |

the overall length is 1 inch shorter but the case is one inch longer and a bit wider than the magnaflow. the edelbrock uses chamber design versus perf core, so they should sound different, would love to see a shootout of the auto type mufflers on the same bike. great fun. |

ya i was taking some measurements and it might take some finagling but it will work. i have a 4.0L ranger with a baffled flowmaster and it sounds great. never have to worry about it getting louder than the day that you started with. who knows you might be on to something here. i know the old latus setup on the xb9s was a great improvement over stock. the only one that performed better was the micron. this new edelbrock muffler is suppose to be better. we will see! |

Well it's good to start a buzz about something. I am glad that people are as enthusiastic as I am about bikes. I come from a Harley family and decided to continue the tradition. I'll keep everyone posted |

I believe the widest you can go is 7" or the muffler will be contacting the kickstand. |

I really want to use the edelbrock to try. I am a metal fabricator by trade so if I have to chop it down to make it work I will. Going all out. If it don't work I'll try another. Like I said I live in snow town Indiana so I've got nothing but time |

The down tube is the hardest part. I tried to use an exhaust tip with a sharp turn in it but it didnt have nearly enough bend. I ended up cutting multiple pie sections into a pipe and rotating them. Its not as pretty but you cant see the down tube behind the lower fairing anyway.} |

If you are looking for a chambered style muffler in either steel or stainless steel that will fit. Try taking a look at Spintech mufflers. The Super Pro Street measures 4x6x9. The Pro Street measures 4x6x12. The Mini series measures 3x5x15. www.spintechmufflers.com |

That spintec is definitely odd looking. I should have all the parts tomorrow and should be able to have it on the bike before the weekend is done. Any other muffler ideas to try anyone? |

I just got the edelbrock muffler in today. I have to pull the stock yet. I hopefully will have this back on before the weekend is done. This muffler is a fabricators dream! It absolutely is going to be one of the easiest things I've done. Well built. I have a couple tricks up my sleeve for this when it comes to tuning time. I have some thing that I am going to do that have never been done. I am going to keep that a secret until it goes on the dyno. I do have a dyno about 45 min or so away. i might talk to some of the other buellers to see if anyone has some pull on a local dyno. plus it is going to be almost 45 here so i will go for a run with the bike (Message edited by coxyxb9s on February 03, 2009) |
