 Got broken in lightly - thank goodness. I have a dump tale to tell, this is like therapy for my ego. I had ridden alot of dirt bikes and street bikes when I was younger. Never been down on the street and only a handful of times on the trails. To note, I was one of those stupid kids that rode with minimal gear (T-shirt and shorts). [Not Now!!] Then I stopped, no real reason other than I was getting out of the Army and was getting married, had other distraction/interested then I guess. After about a 20yr break, I got back into the saddle. I have been riding for about a year with my ego got hurt. It was on my newly purchased Uly, it was February. Bought it in January and procrastinated in getting my tags. They were due and I didn't want to pay any extra fees. My motor vehicle department like all others, are not so fun to deal with, at least that is my experience. I had the impression that they needed to see the bike in person to read the VIN. The neighborhood roads were hard pack snow and the main roads were cleared and dry. I thought to myself that I could putt-putt my way down my neighborhood streets and then get on the dry roads. It was cold, about 37 degrees F., but sunny. I gear up and start out. I was idling down the road doing the slip-n-slid, when a guy backs out of his driveway right in front of me. I was already on edge with my new Uly and fighting it when this happened. I tried to gently swerve, hit the back brakes, and grab the clutch. My mistake was touching the front brakes. I was down very quickly, and on my left side and directly behind the cage driver. My bike hadn't had the bank angle sensor installed yet, so I inadvertently rev-ed up the engine. That is what stopped the car from backing over me. After he stopped, I hit the stop switch and started to try and pick up my bike. I couldn't, it was sliding on the hard pack snow. The guy was real sorry and could not stop apologizing and he helped pick up my bike. I looked it over and found that I bent the shift lever and it's bracket. Also, rotated my clutch lever assembly upward. But my ego was smarting - badly! It was such a slow spill that nothing else happened to me or the bike. I walked the bike home and calmed down, then fixed the shifted lever and clutch lever assembly. Then I was back at it again. This time I negotiated the snow packed roads and made it to the dry ones. Here is the awful part. I could have left the bike at home and brought in the paperwork and got it registered and tagged. That is because the dealer that I bought it from had a cop verify the VIN already, he bought it from out-of-state. This incident could have been avoided. I pray that this is the only spill/accident that I will have. I had to get this out, I have not told anyone else about this. More importantly, my wife doesn't know and since she doesn't read this site I'm pretty safe. Thanks for the therapy session.  | ||
