Looking at the pic it looks bent, but I swear that is an optical illusion.

I have it mostly installed in the t body right now, just mocked up and I am sure this will be the answer to the problem, permanently.

Man, the lack of material on the stocker is embarrassing, vendor lowball solution if I ever saw one...

Dude, it looks exactly like every throttle or choke shaft I've ever seen in a whole lot of different engines. My guess is the vibrations of the big V-twin and the engine mounting (which allows the engine to move up-and-down) combined with the weight of the throttle mechanism (where the cables attach) hanging off the end of the throttle shaft caused the shaft to break from fatigue. If you could look at the thing with the engine running with a strobe light you'd probably see the shaft flexing back and forth with the engine's vibration.

Since this doesn't seem to happen to all Buells (or even all Ulys) something must be different about some of these throttle shafts. It may be that the throttle hole on that one side was drilled just a little off center, a dull tap was used to cut the threads (pre-stressing the metal), the material spec was a little off or something similar, which caused this to break on some Buells.

I don't really see that we can accuse them of low-balling this part.

Ya mean like this:

1977-built Bing 40mm, current carb price new $350-400. I seem to remember my air cooled VW's had similar arrangements but I could be stepping in it there.

I was just commenting that an expensive part like the Buell T/B should have some more meat in there. I would also think Buell might be a little upset about warranty replacing said expensive part due to failure of what could have been designed by the vendor a whole lot better for not a whole lot more $$.

Just sayin'...

Man that is awesome...talk about an ingenious solution to a PITA problem. 95% of the motorcycling public would have just sucked it up and paid the absurd cost for a whole new TB. This has been an really interesting discussion to follow. Congrats on getting that thing running again, Charlie!

Oh, it's hardly a problem really. (That's pretty much been my attitude lately since we got my Uly on the road again.)

A little SR 60 to Morganton did me some good yesterday.
