I recently got an 03 XB9, and after chopping the tail and painting it, I decided to paint the frame and swingarm too. It came out pretty good as I took all day taping it up, but I didn't think about how hot the swingarm can get until the next day. I used Duplicolor acrylic enamel, not high temp. Am I gonna have to do this over because of this? Or should it be ok? And if I do have to do it over, is their any problems with sanding it down since the original paint is impregnated? Thanks. |

Here's a thought, I believe Duplicolor has a clear coat that is Hi Temp, since the temp of the swingarm should be mebe 400 or so degrees, ( really not sure the temp ) mebe you could spray the previously applied job with it so as to mebe get the durability in that heat range. In alot of circumstances you see custom painted motors, rather than polish or chrome, and the colors that I see surely are not Hi Temp, just something to think about. To be sure on a repaint, I would use an etching/solvent to asure good adhesion. |

I would guess 90+% bike paint jobs are not (Quote HI-TEMP) I have painted a few cars and bikes and I used normal paint and have had great success. The proper preparation of the object and using the correct paint within its guidelines (proper temp. and reducer/thinner etc.) I do not do it for a living. But I would help a friend. And if I have any questions my brother in law does it for a living. Of course if you have more funds go for powder coating. Good luck and I'll be painting one soon also. |

Cool, thanks for the responses. I'm gonna look into that hi-temp clearcoat. So far the paint's been holding up fine, but then again it is winter.

You don't need high temp paint or clear coat on the swingarm. Normal clear will due. |

Wow! Bike looks great. I'm planning on painting my bike next month (frame, swingarm, forks, seat bar thingy). I'm wondering if flat black on the frame, and then a semi-gloss black on the forks and beneath the seat would look good. Thoughts? |
