Just picked up a stock 99' X1 carbon fiber edition. If anyone has pictures of the stock air box/scoop removed can you post please. |

There's the right side. I'd offer a pic of the left side too, but I keep the scoop on for cooling the rear head (Message edited by pkforbes87 on January 19, 2009) |

Nice! Left side please! Thanks for the pic. Excuse my ignorance, but when I got my S3T, the mods were already made and the gas tank has no cover, so I'm new to this X1 thing. So when & If I remove the stock air box assembly, it will leave me when that seperate piece I see below the tank cover in your picture? Can you get touch-up paint for the nuclear blue frame?

Rich, That's a great looking bike. American Sport Bike sales those lower tank trim pieces and in carbon fiber too. |

Yep, that piece is from American Sport Bike. I got the fiberglass piece since it was being painted anyway. I've seen nuke blue touch up paint, but I don't think it's a current part from Buell so you'll have to find some on eBay or etc.. I know it's ugly, but if I had it to do over again I would keep the helmholtz airbox. When I pulled the left side scoop off, the rear plug looked like it was running hotter. It seems rediculous to think that the scoop actually performs a function but IMO it does. As for the airbox, I prefer the looks of a forcewinder but ever since I installed it I've had problems with the intake air temp sensor warming up on short on & off rides (like poker runs) The heat from the engine warms up the sensor so when I start the bike again before it completely cools, the ECM is getting an Effed up signal from IAT, and runs like crap for a while. I'm sure others will disagree with both of my points, but just saying - if I had it to do over again.. BTW if you decide to scrap the airbox I'll buy it. |

I like the scoop and the airbox. It's part of the uniquely Buell look. |

i think the x1s look better without the box esp. the cf model as long as you put the those tank covers on (Message edited by firebolt020283 on January 19, 2009) |

I like the "stock" look of the X1 scoop and air box. It's too bad the "CF" edition didn't include those pieces AS CF. I'd say to the original poster,"Nice bike as it is". |

Thanks for all the comments guys. Is there any way to bring back the luster of the CF? Do I polish it like paint? |

I reccomend Zymöl car wax. Its all natural and restores the natural oils back into paints and clears. It's the Bees Knees when it comes to restoring that original shine. I once sprayed down the back of my bike (including the stock CF rear fender) with a canister degreaser back when my oil tank had a crack in it; it turned the white (Pale)! I liberally applied some Zymöl and rubbed it in real good with a synthetic rag and after a couple good thick coats the color and shine came back to normal. Phelan, which specific Zymol product do you use? Man the range of price & products of Zymol is enormous! Wouldn't a product like Mother's do the same thing? |

Bsanorton if yours is still in good shape I would recommend maybe getting a clear coat applied that protected it from the sun's rays. I bought mine to ride and ride I have but it has also sat out in front of work several times and has turned a nice shade of moss green. No wax will ever bring it back but that's alright, I just won't enter any beauty contests |

PKForbes, do you have any pics of your bike from the front? I'm curious as to the look of the bike with just the left scoop on it. By the way, those are both great looking bikes. |

Bandm has the same route that I was going to suggest. That's what I have on my S3T too. Would fit in nicely with the rest of your bike. Really nice find and congrats on getting your new bike! |

When you pulled off the stock plastic covers is that what is left showing? Was anything else modied to make it look like you have it now? Cause it looks really nice. I love being able to see the engine. WIKID - the former owner does not know where those mirrors came off of, but if I decide not to use them, you are welcome to them.... Hey Kyrocket - The more I look at my CF the more it looks like it also has a hint of moss green in it. No way to bring back the original look? When you take off the plastics you can see the bottom of the fuel tank. I have this area covered with carbon fiber tank accents also from Al at American Sport Bike. http://www.americansportbike.com/shoponline/ccp0-p rodshow/6023.html |

Thanks Bandm, but I'm wondering if my CF is too faded now to look good next to the new parts..... |

Mine's too far gone. I have read accounts of people "going to" sand down with fine sandpaper and re-clear but have never seen or heard of the results. |

I was just reading the info link from X1carbon's page, and it sounds like the CF is supposed to have a blue/green tint. Aftermarket CF will most likely not match it perfectly unless you can find the same carbon/kevlar blend. "No other manufacturer has offered a production motorcycle with a complete carbon fiber package. Buell Motorcycle Co. teamed up with its expert composite supplier and Dupont® to create the bodywork of carbon fiber and Kevlar® brand fiber. It features an alternating weave of the two materials, with a blue tint wind adds an iridescent gleam." |

Yep. A lot of the fibers have a bluish tint which really looks good in the sun. Hans DeBo @ Debotech in Mooresville, NC made the CF for the CFEs. Many of the CFEs lost the blue tint from too much exposure from the sun. Fortunately mine has always been garaged when not in use. The blue still looks great. |
