I do this kind of maintenance on the dirt bikes all the time. Just wanted to know if there are any TIPS & TRICKS that would be helpful. Or any known reasons why it is this after only 5000 miles. It's seen some rain, but not much.

You guys are great, can't wait until I can give back....

Lube the cable. You can find the proper lube at your Stealership or local bike shop.
Did you happen to adjust the cables lately? If so you may have tightened too much also.

Check your butterfly in the throttle body. I have seen a couple of times where the post that holds the butterfly snaps and the throttle does not snap back but will idle. Does the bike idle but not rev when you twist the throttle? If so, then that may be your problem.

Haven't touched it yet, I caught it idling high a few times the other day and just had to twist it back to get it to 'seat'. When playing with it not running it just goes back real slow. I can manually return it, of course !

This is probably stupid, but make sure the grip isn't rubbing on anything, bar-end mirror, bar-end, etc.

How much slack are you supposed to have in the throttle cable? Mine seems to have quite a bit, atleast a 1/4 inch.

I've had it a couple of times from gunk on the throttle tube. Clean and lube was all I needed.

1-Check to see if the throttle prefers to stick with the front wheel turned full left or full right or neither.

2-Do a visual inspection of the cables. I had a single strand of the steel cord break and this caused interference between the cable and the shield. Also the cable may have moved inside the assembly. It is important to have the assembly correct.

3-Check the bar ends for interference as stated prior.

4-Clean&Lube as stated prior.

Had mine stick open because of the butterfly in the throttle body, just a small amount of carb cleaner done the trick.
