I'm sure this has been asked before, but what is the best way of painting the plastics on the XB? I know 90% of the paint job is in the prep, so whats the best way to prep the surface? My attempt will be of the rattle can sort, is there a preferred brand of paint to go with? Thanks |

I don't prep, I just shake and shoot with Rustoleum. |

i sand with 120 grit, wipe down with acetone and then throw down a few light coats a few minutes apart in a 70 degree garage with low humidity |

120?! That's for rough blocking out filler! 600-800 is more like it. And do it wet. Red scotch brite works well also. (Message edited by nik on January 19, 2009) |

scotch brite then http://www.tcpglobal.com/autobodydepot/wipes.aspx then paint. Only use heavy grit sand paper IE 120 for bondo or deep gouges then step it up to a higher grit for a good finish. |

If there are no deep scratches, then: Wet sand it with 400 grit, primer, wet sand, then paint it. Always primer, especially with plastics, or else it will start flaking off. Painting and prep is easy, take your time and don't get greasy fingerprints on it. Also, get a tack-rag to wipe all the dust off before you paint. |

If you are not going to use a gun, then I recommend Dupli-color, which every Pep-boys or any other auto store stocks, and comes in hundreds of colors. It is just as good as any auto paint, the only difference is the pressure from the spray can. If you have a steady hand and can spray consistently no one will ever know! I do not trust krylon. A good tip for spray cans is to let them sit in hot water to build up pressure. Make sure you use the same brand primer as the paint brand you will use! Or else it could have a bad reaction! Also, are you going to clear it also? |

I don't suppose anyone knows of a pre-made color that matches Sunset Orange? ~SM |
