I visited a local HD dealer that is upgrading their dealership by adding a Buell only showroom (ocean county n.j. hd) and had the opportunity sit on one of 3 1125cr's, a 09 Ulysses and an 09 XB12Ss .... i like the ulysses of course,.. (it was the sluggish yellow color), then I sat on a BLACK XB12Ss and was amazed at the similar feel it had with the Uly,.. i am 6ft and like more of an upright riding position. Which is why I chose my uly over the other bikes my dealer had at the time (they didnt have an Ss). I liked the feel XB12Ss alot!! Think it be a waste to have both a XB12X and an XB12Ss?? I test rode the Ss. What a hot rod. I thought the same thing... "Can I have two?" It has a great feel for the tall rider (i'm 6'3"; 210) I couldn't spend all day on it like the Uly-- but I'd hit the twisty's and down town... Hooligan all the way. | ||

Never a waste to have another bike, but I've left a Ss(long) in the mountains when I had the Uly. Pretty much have the same frame. It does have the hooligan factor, but I would want something a little different. (Message edited by dentguy on January 17, 2009) | ||

The SS and Uly are similar bikes. They both share the same swing arm, frame, belt, and engine and just about everything else. Differences are suspension, fairing, pegs and mounts, reinforced wheels on X, and a few other tidbits. I have a 06 SS, the 09 SS has the STT suspension. Comparing my X to SS, the X is the better bike. I actually have gone to the extreme of converting it to an X because I liked it so much better. Dentguy, it’s the Indian, not the arrow. If anything the SS will do better in the mountains as the suspension is road focused. Also the SS has a greater lean angle because of the higher pegs. | ||

Hmm... mabye i should look at at it like this,....a 5'8" person has a much more choices in finding a motorcycle that feels comfortable or "right" for them,.... Where as 6ft+ people has much less. I just happen to find 2 of them next to each other. And you know the saying... you only think you want it because you don't or can't have it? I will try to keep thinking that....I hope it works. | ||

Not trying to sound cocky, but don't think it was the arrow. Could have used those higher pegs though. The Uly's were scraped a lot. | ||

If things go well, I'll be moving from an X to an SS. I LOVE the X, but I don't tour and my wife rides with me only occasionally. I don't go off road. All the things the Uly is made for, I don't use. Now I do seek to carve roads and do track days. I'm 6' 235lbs, so the additional space is welcome. I'm looking to have a bike that would be better for what I use the Uly for. For me it would be a waste to have too bikes. If you do all the things that the Uly is made for often, the SS wouldn't provide that much more functionality. I hope to have a bike with less suspension travel, less weight, and is more flickable. | ||

Oh, I agree. The issue is that there aren't any used ones in the price range I can pay. My plan is to have an SS and a CR. They are similar enough to be familiar, but different enough to warrant two. | ||

Haven't sat on a CR yet, but I already know I want one next to my '06 X. I've determined that I am a Buell man - there will always be one or two around. (Message edited by hooper on January 18, 2009) | ||

the XB12SS is comfortable until I start to ride it because of the foot peg location. I rode one last year at homecoming and I damn near turned around and took it back before I had left the grass area of the Buell parking lot. I rode with my feet off the pegs for about a quarter of the ride with my legs cramping-up on me. When we got back, I swore that I had ridden a standard XB12S and not the Lighting Long but they showed me otherwise. I had the same problem when I purchased my Uly back in May 2006 after I had test rode a Lighting before the Ulysses. There's a problem with the leg position and it causes a cramping problem for me. I like the looks of the Lighting Long better than the Uly but the ridding position of the Uly is superior. That's just my opinion! | ||

Don, the egros on the S and SS are the same. Also the Uly peg brackets on the SS add a nice drop.  | ||

Froggy, I know that the frames are the same but there is a different feeling on the foot pegs placement. I get leg cramps when I ride the SS and have never on my Uly. | ||

Yes, the SS is about 3" higher. I have the left side swapped to the Uly on my SS, the right is still SS. Uly setup is much more comfortable, I just hope I still got enough ground clearance. |
