Has anyone tried one of the throw on top gel seat pads . I need a better seat for my firebolt , I have heard too may bad things about corbin, and short people (like me) seem to have problems with the buell select seat. I was thinking, throw on the gel pad to get where I'm going, take it off , have fun in the mountains, put it back and ride home. good on harleys, i've ridden with one. but when it comes to sport bikes, like your firebolt, they raise your butt up almost an inch. doesn't sound like much but it does change some things over a long ride... your butt won't hurt but you shoulders, arms, wrists and hands will. find a buddy thats got one, borrow it and see how you like it. thats what I would do. | ||

I must remind you what Mr. E. Buell said about the seats on his motorcycle's. (If your butt is in one place on a Buell till it gets tired I must have built you to much motorcycle) he he I dont have the ans. I stop every 100 miles for fuell and a strech. it works for me. | ||

A sheepskin is a good way to go. Not as high as the gel seat, warmer/cooler then the gel. I always ride with mine on the Uly. I had a Corbin on my last bike, and I still used the Sheepskin on top of the Corbin. Corbin without the sheepskin was too hard. (Message edited by gsilvernale on January 18, 2009) | ||

I bought a "butt buffer" throw on top gel pad at a bike show last year. About $55 and worth the money. I'm only good for a couple of hours without it. One important point I came to is while the the gel pad doesn't really make the seat feel more "comfortable", it does give you more time/miles before the seat feels uncomfortable. And texastech1's point is a good one - you wouldn't think an inch would make that much difference on the rest of your body but it just might. I opted for the ulysses low saddle because of the built in gel padding but the difference in my knees that dropping my rear an inch (or two) made was enough for me to ditch the low saddle My stock seat upholstery is starting to tear out at the stress points and whether I have it professionally redone or do it myself I'll incorporate the gel pad into the existing foam | ||

Seems everything adds some height. I have a Buell Select seat setting on a shelf. Purchased used here, I think, for about fifty-bucks. Its cover is slippery (after Armor-All removed with mineral spirits). Raises (widens?) seat height noticeably. With my 32-in inseam it felt 'taller' leg-to-ground installed; but nothing like tip-toes. I'd snap Select back on for a long day (its fasteners & base = stock). PM to consider trial-run on my Select seat. It's not for sale, tho'. Fits XB rider seat only. | ||

I had a factory gel seat on my old GS500E and it would get mighty hot in the FL sun. Worse thing is it holds the heat for a long time. I started carrying a towel and laying it on the seat while parked at work. | ||

Thanks for all the ideas . I guess I will start with some shorts and work my way to the gel insert. That might be the only way I can get a stock height seat that is still good for all day rides Aptbldr. would I be able to reach the ground on the select seat with a 30" inseam? Rick | ||

I have an Air Hawk. It works like a mini pleated air mattress. Blow it up and ride. Let air out as you go to give you the best comfort. If you let too much air out, simply blow some more into it........but people may wonder what you are doing, giving your seat a blow job. Actually have not used it as much after the Dr. gave me the ol once every five years "prep Kit #3" dealio..........  | ||

I use a sheepskin on my cruiser, which gets me no end of cr@p from the Grey Ponytailed Brethren I often ride with. I haven't thrown it onto the Uly yet, but that seat is so comfortable as-is I don't expect I will. Unless maybe it's to bother the GPBs. | ||

Doubt a 30" inseam allows the Select seat AND both feet flat on the pavement. +1, on that stretchy hi-tech bicycle-shorts-looking underwear for improved seat comfort. These insulate right upper leg, too. : ) | ||
