Typically, the Aprilia won, the Buell came in last because they just don't get it. Ho hum. At least they admitted it was the fastest bike out there even if they couldn't figure out how to ride it. Read it and weep:-) http://www.motorcycle.com/shoot-outs/2009-streetfi ghters-shootout-aprilia-tuono-1000-r-buell-1125cr- triumph-speed-triple-87798.html |

I paid $11,600.00 for my cr ! that aint no toy . You can get in just as much trouble with the Buell as you can with that ugly ass Aprillia |

my '04 Tuono runs rings around my M2 in almost every category - the new Tuono [probably] even moreso doesn't matter - the Cyclone's my fave - older Buells often don't make sense until you ride & own 1 1125Rs, in my experienced view, are the bastard child of Rotax & Erik - that's gotta be a good thing! |

I actually had the opportunity just yesterday to trade bikes with a buddy who has a 2008 Tuono. Here is what I thought: -Aprilia was much more comfortable than the 1125R at lower speeds, but on the highway it is like doing a constant sit-up (may apply to the CR as well though) -Tuono suspension was set up a bit soft for me. It felt kind of sloppy like my Yamaha FZ1. This could be the result of comparing it directly to the rock-hard Buell though. -Tuono power came on somewhat softer than the Buell, both bikes ran cleanly at all rpm (Buell still being broken in) -Tuono engine noise was very muted, much more sound from the exhaust than the Buell but it was mainly popping and other crap noises anyway. -Front braking power and feel were about equal to the Buell. Rear brake was far superior to my 1125R. -Instrumentation and controls were better on the Buell. Tuono's horn and turnsignal switch were in the reverse position of a conventional setup. Tuono mirrors came loose at about 100 mph, but Buell mirrors vibrate to being useless at most engine speeds. He had some problems with the Aprilia that mirror those of what others have experienced with their Buells: bad dealership told him the tank was full when he picked it up but he ran out of gas a few miles later; and an oil line blew out on the highway coating the rear tire (temporary fix on the roadside, but it could have been fatal). They're both nice bikes, but neither the Tuono or 1125 (R&CR)are perfect. Buy and ride what you like and shut the F*ck up about it already. |

a) To hear the truth is sometimes painfull. b) quote a:"Riding a bike that’s somewhat unruly by nature can provide lots of giggles, but only if you like that sort of thing all the time. If that’s your cup of coffee, then the 1125CR is your ticket to good times all ‘round." quote b: "doesn't matter - the Cyclone's my fave - older Buells often don't make sense until you ride & own 1" Judge yourself. Fits somehow, doesn't it? So, where's the problem with that article? That some whimps need to have their bike be #1 in a comparison to feel happy? Doesn't just riding their bike give them enough happyness? For what reason then did such guys buy this bike? As a new toy, perhaps? Got tired with the old one? |

Motorcycle.com and watercooled Buells have not had a stellar introduction to each other. Notice the dig on the abrupt throttle. The history there is that 1125Rs given to motorcycle.com for testing were giving them trouble and MC.com has done a lot to try to cut as much slack as possible. Pete Brisette was at Willow Springs Inside Track (Nov 08) to check on the progress of the 1125R and was again given a bike that surged in the low RPMs. That was the third time he was given an 1125R that did not run right. He wasn't upset, more like dumbfounded. With those experiences as a background, I can see how they were "overly sensitive" when testing the 1125CR. I didn't get the "lobster" comment though?!? |

Aw, c'mon--look at it! In blazing red I admit it does bear some resemblance to a cooked lobster. And I think it's an apt analogy, too. If you had never eaten a lobster or a prawn and someone just dropped a whole one on your plate (without butter or lemon, even!), you might be a little apprehensive about tucking into it. I've heard certain grubs are delicious, too, but still... no thanks. Likewise, even after your first exploratory nibbles, you might have a tough time reconciling the conflicting signals being sent by your tongue (delicious!) and your eyes (gaa! giant cockroach!). From a certain point of view, warming up to a bike as distinctivly-styled as either of the 1125s may be a bit of a challenge for some in the moto-press. And if the looks really turn them off, they're going to be acutely sensitive to any flaws in the bike that vindicate their distaste. Not that the first 1125Rs sent around for the press to try out didn't have some pretty significant flaws--apparently they did, and it's too bad Buell sent them out that way. On the other hand, it does kind of seem like those same journalists have been unwilling to give the 1125s (especially the 1125R) a fair break since then. |

That takes nothing away from the Buell to pay another bike a compliment. Buellborn, that comment was in response to Gunter's: What did you expect when comparing serious motorbikes to a toy ... Well, now as you mention it: you're right, it's not a toy. It's an overprized toy. I would interpret those to both take away from the Buell in paying the other bikes a compliment.

Definitely a toy for me. Well worth the price though. Working on my wife to think about the 1125R. Its a bit tall for her. Three of her last four bikes have been Triumphs, and have been great for her. We both have been very pleased with them (Triumphs), but this 1125R makes me want to go out to the garage just to look at it, waiting for some nice weather. Ray |

compared to the price of an Aprilia the Buell is pretty reasonable . And for Aprilia I have yet to see one on the road . As for the lack of bikes on the street it speaks volumes about the product ! And your right my bike does have to be number one !!!!!! (Message edited by thedavyboy on January 12, 2009) |

compared to the price of an Aprilia the Buell is pretty reasonable . $1000.00 difference in list. I wouldn't call that making the Buell pretty reasonable. $1000.00 can be negotiated. And for Aprilia I have yet to see one on the road . Same could be said for the Buell. I've never seen a CR on the road and I've only seen one 1125R about 8 months ago. As for the lack of bikes on the street it speaks volumes about the product ! Not to be confused with a lot of the new Buells that spent plenty of time in the shop and not on the street due to reflashes, dead battery, not charging, clutch fluid leaking, stalling etc. Not trying to defend the Aprilia or put down the Buell, but the same things you said could be said about the Buell. I'll repeat what was posted earlier. "....Buy and ride what you like and shut the F*ck up about it already...." (Message edited by dentguy on January 13, 2009) |

I purchased a Yamaha FZ1 based on a magazine review. Worst mistake I ever made. Go ride what you are interested in and let the magazine reviews sway the kiddies. PS, Read the sign: DO NOT FEED THE TROLLS. |

Allow me to add a voice of reason. I don't own ANY of these bikes, but if I were to buy one, it would be an 1125CR. Here's why: 1) There are 3 Aprilia dealers, 4 Triumph dealers, and 9 Buell dealers in my state. 2) Parts for the Buell are considerably cheaper than the Triumph or Aprilia. 3) My local dealer is great. Sure, they have shiny Harley butt jewelry in their shop, but that's what pays the bills for them. The owner and I have done track days together and the service manager reads this site and posts up from time to time. 4) This site and the Buell rider community are second to none. 5) Buell "insiders" read this forum and actually listen to their customers and offer advice/help. 6) I've met Erik Buell and a number of Buell employees. I can't name you one person that works for Aprilia or Triumph (or any other motorcycle company for that matter). 7) I've toured the Buell factory, had lunch with the line workers, spoken to them and seen the pride they put into their products. There are lots of really good bikes available. But in the end, it comes down to what you can live with. Would I like to have the Triumph or Aprilla, sure I would. They are great bikes. But so is the Buell. Just because someone publishes their subjective opinion doesn't make it fact. I've ridden an 1125R (first year) on the track, and I found it much easier to ride than my GSX-R600 in every aspect. I enjoyed it more. I smiled more. I had no issues with the brakes, engine heat, fueling, etc. It did vibe a bit more than I expected, but it's a MOTORCYCLE not a refrigerator....it's SUPPOSED to offer a visceral feel. I have ridden several bikes, and there has only been one I just hated. The rest of them were fun when used as intended. Even my little 125cc scooter is fun to ride as long as you don't expect to do 100mph with a knee down. The key to finding the right bike is to determine what you want in a bike, then go ride a few. Pick the one you like best after you consider all factors, including how you'll get it worked on or where you'll buy parts. That's precisely why my track bike is a GSX-R600. It's a very difficult bike to ride fast. But I can find parts for it everywhere. There are probably 8 dealers within a 30 mile radius of my house. I can hit eBay and find complete engines if I want one (and in fact have a $400 used engine in the bike right now...that's right...$400 for the WHOLE engine). Would I rather be tracking a Ducati, Aprilia, or some other big twin....you bet your a$$, but in the end, it comes down to economics for me. The Gixxer is paid for, cheap, and reliable (or at least as reliable as a bike with 32,000 hard miles can be). So....if you don't care for Buells....that's fine. But don't assume they aren't good bikes. |

Buell didn't deserve to win. They haven't properly sorted fuel injection. And don't defend them, the FI tech should be sacked (3 reflashes and don't forget the '08 air cooled failures). 20mpg city on a liquid v-twin that never rises above 5k is stupid. The fork settings are too stiff. They also need to give journos RACE PADs so they get the initial bite they're after. That said, the other parts of the bike are great. And the CR doesn't need a full fairing like the R does. -'08 1125R owner sick of not being able to critique Buell on issues they could fix for less than $100/'08 sold. Hire a god damn FI tech from Xerox WSBK team for 3 weeks! Stop being so stubborn! And where are my god damn targeted fuel injectors! (Message edited by clarkjw on January 13, 2009) |

clarkjw- uve got balls and its great. i agree it is disheartening to have these problems on a practicly brand new bike. i worry about after the 2 year warrenty is gone. how about 4 years down the road. if theres this many problems early, what will it be like then. just a thought. |
