Last time it was around $85-$95. I have 3 Garmin GPS', so I am wondering if one subscription will work for all 3? |

Looks like it is for the lifespan of one unit |

I just bought the 2009 update and wrote Garmin a nasty-gram. Kind of chaffed me, after spending $2,000 on Garmin GPS's that I had to buy a copy of the software for EACH unit. |

Court, I understand and feel you pain at having to shell out money for map updates, but do not blame Garmin for the prices. Garmin only designs and builds the unit and display software. The map data is purchased from NAVTEQ. These data vendors charge Garmin for the data and they must pass the "savings" on to you and I, the end user. Interestingly, I think the idea of the lifetime update is something that has come from Nokia purchasing NAVTEQ. Most GPS users, like cell phone users, will update their unit at least every two-five years. I have owned many GPS units and usually do not update more than twice before purchasing a new unit. This is just a way to make consumers feel better about purchasing updates for a unit they already own. The only other real competitor for NAVTEQ is Tele Atlas. By the way, all of the Point of Interest (POI) data comes from other third parties as well. So when your map is correct but the POI is wrong, it is not the fault of Garmin or NAVTEQ. It is the third party vendor which supplied the POI data to these companies. Wait till the GPS units display Global Imaging (GIS) like google earth does now. Then there will be even more parties involved. Mike |

I posted this a while ago, but if you are interested in hard wiring your GPS to the accessory plug here is the thread which shows how to build the plug for about $1. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/290 431/388582.html?1222284679 |
