I wouldn't bet on Buell letting anyone use that engine, especially when a bike just like that is so fitting for Buell at this point. |

Remember, Cagiva is OWNED by H-D!!! (Cagiva owned MV-Agusta and ALL were acquired in H-D's buying of MV) |

Cagiva already sources engines from Suzuki, I can't see them stopping that in the near future. I'm aware of who owns who, but I still don't see this happening. |

I don't think Harley owns all of Cagiva. JUST MV Agusta. |

I think it's splendid and would continue a most unusual source of income that Buell has benefited from . . . royalties from Harley-Davidson. I love it every time they take a Buell patent and license it to other marque . . HD or Cagiva. Hey . . Buell is one of the few PROFITABLE motorcycle companies right now. Nice to have a portfolio of cutting edge designs, eh? For me? . . . I'd need 150 RWHP in that configuration like a kick in the shins.

Here is another thread which confirms the "rumor" that putting the rotax or a comparable engine in a Cagiva is official. http://www.fasterandfaster.net/2008/12/harley-davi dson-to-revive-cagiva.html This article also talks about a Cagiva superbike in the future with a higher output Rotax V-Twin (180hp), which we already know is on the bench being designed (as a Buell Racing engine) right now. i can only see this going well for the Buell line. Buell will continue to be the street fighter American styled bikes but MV and Cagiva will be the EU style bikes. As a bonus the price of parts will decrease due to larger manufacturing volume. I would love to see a MV, Cagiva, Buell dealer. With no HD found anywere in the building. |

I would love to see HD create a whole new brand that includes Cagiva, MV and Buell. Not a new brand name, but an umbrella company that would market these bikes under the HD ownership to those that might not consider doing business in a HD dealership. If HD's plans are to expand the Cagiva/MV market in the US new type of dealers will not be nice but mandatory. People drop some considerable dime on the MV bikes and will not take kindly to being told "all you have to do is find a good dealer". They will all have to be good. This could be a real opportunity for HD. I just hope they conduct the business like Toyota did with Scion, and not like GM did with Geo and Saturn. |

does anyone know how much stock does HD own of Rotax. if its higher then 51%. We can see a trend of rotax engines on cahiva, MV and Buell |

HD doesn't own any Rotax stock, as far as I'm aware. Buell contracted the design and production of an engine to Rotax, that was all. |

Well, Bombardier owns Rotax, and I'm not aware of HD ownership in that company. |

100% accurate? Didn't Buell engineers help design that engine as well? |

>>>Didn't Buell engineers help design that engine as well? They did a great deal of it. That was not the question. The instant question is with respect to any Harley-Davidson equity interest in BRP/Rotax. There is none. There were many details to the engineering arrangement. I know only a few but enough to know that Buell teams spent a LOT of time in Austria and that there was lots of pre-during-post project thought given. As an example . . you're not going to see anyone transferring Buell designed tech to something like an Aprilia. They can correct their own design. |

That faux Elefant fabrication is dead sexy. I don't see the benefit of the power that the 1125 lays down in that format though. Is there another 147hp dual sport (New Tiger doesn't count)? |

That faux Elefant fabrication is dead sexy. I don't see the benefit of the power that the 1125 lays down in that format though. Is there another 147hp dual sport (New Tiger doesn't count)? My only real issue with the rendering is the engine is too small - it would need to be considerably larger to be to scale with the rest of the bike. I have made the same reference to the character of this engine in a platform such as this - they don't mesh well in my head. There are reasons that bikes in this category (I'm thinking of Uly's, BMW GS's and the like) all use simple, air-cooled, long stroke engines. However, I have been told otherwise by most on this board who feel a 10,500rpm, 146hp superbike engine is fitting for the dirt. I've been wrong before... |

Now an 850cc long stroke 100HP engine tuned for low end torque. Now THAT would be a nice platform. The other problem is that although the rendering is elegant it lacks engineering oversight. I can't imagine that the cooling for that bike will be very good without radiators. |

Now an 850cc long stroke 100HP engine tuned for low end torque. How about a virtually zero maintenance, 103HP 1200cc long stroke motor, tuned for a mother-butload of low end torque? Oh, wait. That's been done... R |

Agree completely, but it ain't no Dakar runner. Calling it an Elefant brings greater capabilities than the Uly is able to deliver. I believe though, that an 1125 engine in it's current tuning would SUCK off road. I'd rather see a Rotax sourced 800cc parallel twin. Wonder who has one of those. |

This means nothing. This bike isn't like the Uly. Wire wheels? Large diameter front wheel? Dual sport tires? No thanks.... I want the short wheelbase, steep rake, standard 17" wheels so I can mount some sticky tires on 'em. I want a sport bike fit for a sasquatch. Leave the Uly just like it is....put the 1125 motor and some big 'ol pods on it. Rock on! |
