I'm more used to Harley and Triumph bikes so please bear with me as I learn. If upgrading the exhaust on an '00 M2, what would give a similar noise level and flow as SEII slip-ons that I have on my '04 Sportster? I really don't want to go any louder than that and appreciate the SEII's ability to idle out of my neighborhood some what quietly but get a good bark when I open her up. I would be interested in hearing about a replacement can, but if gains are there then a complete new exhaust would be preferred. Thanks. |

I have herd that the V&h for the tubers are not too loud, But I do not think they will sound quite the same as a screamin eagle pipe. The d&d will prob. sound closer to the same but may be a little louder. The super trapp you can configure it to be as loud or quiet as you want it to be. The force will be really loud. correct me of I am wrong but I think that is all of your options that are still made for the tubers. there are others out there but you would have to find them used because they are no longer made, like the dubs, the buell race pipes, and the wright brothers. |

Thanks. Performance, nice sound, and acceptable noise levels are my goals. I realize they are conflicting but that's life. Supertrapp has a solid reputation for a quality and tune able exhaust so I may check there first. They also allow tuning in other applications as other engine mods are done. I like the look of the Force reverse cone silencer but they seem to be beyond my noise level requirements. I don't mind looking for a good used silencer or complete exhaust if that is preferable. |

I'm running a Vance pipe now, have never had complaints from the neighbors but it seems a little loud. Gonna put on a Supertrapp with 18 disks, I had a White Brothers on it before the V & H, lost mid range when I went to that but it is a little easier on the ears. We'll see how the neighbors like the Supertrapp in the spring. The Borla slip on is one of the best sounding pipes I've heard on a Buell- deep, rich, and meaty sounding like a thick stew (mmmmmmm) not ear shattering like the Force pipe though- I've read they're good performance wise too. |

Factory Buell Race Header and Muffler might be a good choice. I have that setup on both my M2 and S3 and find that it is acceptable in most situations if I take it easy. But when I open the throttle, it really barks. Sounds great. Might be a bit louder than a new Vance and Hines, but my friend's V&H seemed to get louder as the packing started to wear out. |

Lets see... I have run stock header w/ WileyCo pipe. Everyone else seemed to love the sound of that. I have run the race header with D&D race muffler. Nothing but complaints from people who ride next to me. Especially when I bring up the front end, my buddy says he's going deaf from how loud that is. I have yet to install the Race header/race muffler I have, or the Supertrapp I have. I have accumulated a several different exhausts over the last couple of years. Can never have too many! |

For an M2? Suptertrapp IDS, if you can find one. A *great* exhaust. Not that loud, does not mess up performance, lets you get at the primary drain screw Shoulda kept mine when I traded in the M2... |

I had a couple V&H pipes and they were really nice sounding but barked when you got on the bike. Not loud but a deep growl. |

Tried V&H, tried SuperTrapp IDS, went back to stock. Too loud for me. The SuperTrapp with 12 Discs sounded the best, but not for commuting every day. (Message edited by jayvee on January 12, 2009) |

I run the WileyCo but had a piece of straight pipe welded into the center to eliminate half of the packing. It is still quiet at idle but barks if you get into it. It also improved the performance. |

Is there much of a difference performance wise between a Buell race header and can over the stock factory header and a supertrapp IDS? Is there anyone else that makes a quality exhaust system other than D&D and Force for the M2? Thanks. |

Race header blows out the packing rather quickly; even after repacking. I don't ride without earplugs, or my ears are ringing all day...even after a short ride. The design of the race can is a straight-through perf-tube with glass wrapped around the outside. The Force pipe is the loudest pipe I've ever heard on a Buell. My ears were ringing after riding behind someone with one installed. He took it off; it was too loud! The D&D is also very loud and crackly. Nice for impressing teens and scaring animals, but I doubt I could tolerate that noise level for long. My only suggestion would be to test-ride a bike with the pipe you're interested in, or barring that; think it over very carefully before you take the plunge. Don't forget that loud pipes also double as an effective law enforcement attractant. |

Captain, I don't want crazy loud, the SEII's on my sportster were a good compromise level for me. Seems like the supertrapp is where I'm heading but before I take the plunge I was wondering if the race header provided any significant performance improvement? |

I think all these choices have a dyno run showing somewhere around here, check that forum, way at the bottom, for example. The SuperTrapp is adjustable, but the sound and power and not inversely proportional in a 1:1 linear way. What I mean is, with 12 discs it's fairly loud, sounds good for a short time, and I could feel the power difference over stock. I took out all I could with the screws I had, down to 8. I could really feel the power loss, but I could barely discern any decrease in the sound. So, forget it, back to stock, for now, until I get the Drummer on. With my new six-speed, I notice I run steady at only about 3500 rpm maximum anytime now, up to about 85. So maybe I could run a muffler with slightly more 'bark' at higher rpm now. |

Seems like the supertrapp is where I'm heading but before I take the plunge I was wondering if the race header provided any significant performance improvement? In a nutshell....YES. It's hard to measure the effect of the race exhaust by itself, as I did all my mods at the same time; *Race kit(exhaust header & muffler, CF air cleaner, Race ECM *Mikuni HSR42 *Andrews N8 cams All I can tell you is that Buellosaurusrex bears no resemblance to the M2 that rolled up on the lift. Yowzah! |
