Found an 06 XB12X locally. It has 15k miles and the asking price is $6995. It's has the touring package on. Not sure but it may also have the lower seat too. What is the reputations of the 06's? Is the oil pump an issue on that year? | ||

Zane- some dealers still have new 06 Ulys (with 2 year factory warranty) in stock for about that price. I'm sure some others will chime in here with examples. The 06's are as good as any of them. Most people don't like the road handling behavior of the stock Dunlop tires (replaced with Pirelli Scorpion Syncs on subsequent models). Dual-rate fork springs were added on the 07's but that's a fairly cheap and easy retrofit if you want to do it. There were a couple of minor recalls on the 06's (kickstand, relocation of TPS switch) but hopefully they're already taken care of. If not, any Buell dealer will still take care of it. As far as the oil pump, the 06 Buells introduced a bronze oil pump drive gear (compared to steel on earlier Buells and Sportsters). AFAIK there hasn't been a reported failure of this gear on this forum. No problems with the oil pump. | ||

Good info. Thanks. If I can't find dressed X or an stock XT pretty soon, I'll have to go the Sporster route. Sporsters are nice, it's just they're my SECOND choice. | ||

The 2006 Uly's can be a great value. Because there are still new one's out there for about that same price, I would try to get them down a little more, which would be a good deal with the bags. It takes a good 10,000 miles just to start breaking in the Uly...so you would be good to go! But seriously, if your first choice is a Uly (XT), they are available...you just might need to travel out of your area. High Country Buell here in Colorado had at least three XT's on the floor last Friday when I was there. I'm sure there are other dealers in the general south east that have some in stock too. The road trip home with a new bike is part of the fun! Be patient "little grasshopper", and hold out for choice #1! | ||

I can't hold out very long. Older buy drives younger son home from school. Right now he can take me to work and pick me up but on the 20th he starts school back up himself. That means I have to leave work, get #2 son home and the work late to make up the time. that kind of puts a time limit on me. | ||

Zane, I know it's not near you, but last week I just bought a brand new '06 XB12X w/ full warranty for $6995 + tax up here in Chicago. So, like Fat_B says, they can still be had for cheap if you dig around at dealers. | ||

Nvr2old, none actually...I bought the last one from Wild Fire H-D in Villa Park. That being said, I know Zylstra H-D in St. Charles has several used Uly's. | ||

You know; I've paid "Too Much" for almost every motorcycle I've ever owned. I once bought a Canadian Army Surplus Triumph TRW (a 500cc flathead twin) for $700. A week later, someone told me I could have bought one for $500 at a Surplus yard. I have similar stories about many of my bikes. The bottom line is that in the end, it doesn't matter. A Uly with bags for seven grand is a fair deal. A Uly for seven grand sitting in your garage is worth a boxcar full of "cheaper" Ulys that are thousands of miles away. When you're riding home from work, and it takes you two hours longer than usual because you took a left instead of a right, and you're wearing that silly grin, are you really going to be concerned because you might have saved five hundred bucks? I had an '06 and I put 34,000 miles on it. It was the most trouble free motorcycle I've ever owned. Buy one. You're gonna love it. And don't worry about squeezing the nickel until the buffalo shits. | ||

Crusty, I thought I was the only one who overpaid for stuff. That's one reason I never want to sell anything I buy, I can't stand taking the loss. The funny thing is, I never think I'm overpaying at the time, but like you said someone always tells me I could have gotten it cheaper... | ||

I always leave money on the table. Is that last $500 worth it on a $10,000 purchase? That $500 buys good will, it keeps the sales guy alive, it keeps the dealer alive, it keeps the service dept alive. I am all about finding a bargain, but saving every single nickel on every single deal is tiresome and doesn't endear one to anyone. You don't want to be known as "that guy that makes my balls ache". | ||

when I purchased my 2006 Ulysses, the salesman quoted me a price for the Uly and the amount they would give me on my trade-in. I purchased it with-out any questions, I felt it was a fair deal for both the dealer and myself. When I read about some of the problems that others are having with their dealers and about other dealers dropping the Buell line of motorcycles, I'm happy that I have a great local dealer to work with! My suggestion is to buy the Uly and just go and ride it! Don't worry about chasing all over the country trying to find a better deal. Think about service and what that's worth to you when you need something done. | ||

I got some crappy news late yesterday. As most of you know I'm in the middle of the divorce from hell and we go to pre-trial next week. My soon to be ex wife hates motor cycles and hates even more the fact that I put my 14 year old son on the back of them. Lawyer said that since my lay down, I should not buy another bike until the divorce is final. Her lawyer will beat me over the head with my accident and it could lead to the divorce decree stopping me from putting Matt on the back any more. He strongly suggested that even if I have to rent a car, not to buy a bike again until the divorce over with. I hate that idea but think he's probably right. I just don't have to like it and I don't. | ||

I agree on the haggling. Except for the two motorcycles I own now, I've overpaid for all of them. Even bought a few at MSRP. Now, I'm older and wiser. I won't pay MSRP anymore. I've been in the hobby long enough I know where the deals are. I also have enough two wheeled conveyances that I can wait for the next model year to come out when the price will drop. I read internet forums and find out what others have paid and where. But I agree with Jeremy. I enjoy supporting my local dealer if they treat me good. Being an MSF instructor, I typically stand in front of 24 to 48 new riders a month during the teaching season. If a dealer is willing to cut me a good deal, I'm willing to sing their praises to a few hundred people a year face to face, and a few thousand online. So, that $500 that they take off the bike will be returned to them 10 fold. Take care of me, and I'll take care of you. The better the deal, the more vociferously I'll pontificate about their dealership.  A good example of this is Cycle Gear. They give MSF instructors a 30% discount. It's a drive for me to get up there, but it's worth it. Oil, filters, track gear, riding gear....whatever I need....30% off. So in turn, I tell all my students to go there to look for gear. These are new students, they don't have ANYTHING. They need helmets, jackets, pants, boots, gloves, etc. I'm sure the money I've saved at Cycle Gear has been returned to them over and over. | ||

I paid $6923 for my '06 a couple weeks ago. It included all bags, a few farkles, and basically the 10K service. It had 9,950 miles. No warranty. --Doc P.S. The '06 is my favorite. | ||
