There won't be a next time. I am going to the hardware store tomorrow and saying "Gimme something similar without the stupid nub in the middle" Turns out there is 2 of those stupid things, the second one was a bit harder to get out, but I prevailed. Here is what it looks like at the moment:

What size was it? IIRC, the torx wrench in the Buell toolkit is a security torx.... |

Hey Froggy, What lights are you running there on your Uly? How well do they work and in what conditions? I'm probably going to do an upgrade in the near future and I'm inquiring into everything I see that's already been done. Cheers. A- |

Before I bought the right tool I just ground the "nub" down with a dremmel and used a non-tamper-resistant torx. |

My VIN number says its a Lightning :P The lights in that pic are the PIAA 1100X. They work great, but I don't use them much anymore, my HIDs make the PIAAs look like candles. Rat, the toolkit one is way to small

Ahh, HIDs. That's another one I've been looking into, so if you don't mind, can I pick your brain in that one as well? I've researched several HID kits that seem pretty good, but in my reading I've come across some things that concern me. I've read that the reflectors and lenses in a light are engineered for the type and strength of bulb they come with and that due to the very different nature of HID over a halogen, even though the bulb may be bright as hell, the spread of light on the road may be very scattered and not that useful to the rider; as well as being a blinding mass of light to the on coming traffic. Other than the actual brightness, how do you feel the HID placed in a reflector designed for a halogen actually performs on the road? Any words of wisdom from froggy or anyone else will be appreciated. Cheers. A- |

Check this thread out, lots of info. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/cgibin/discus/show .cgi?142838/381128 I know about the scatter issue, I plan on getting the euro headlamp assembly to help with the light distribution, but so far I have not been flashed or flipped off or anything. I can see forever at night, I only use my high beam if I want to confuse low flying aircraft. I use a 50W kit, while most HIDs are 35W. |

Use a short punch and give the center pin a good sharp rap and the pin will snap right off. Granted the anti theft is lost but realistically I think it would be a rare ocassion when that was the reason your bike was stolen... |

I didn't want to hijack Dr Gregs thread, I had PIAA 510's on my Uly. They look sweet, and light up everything. but again, if i did HIDs there would be no point. I like the look of the 510's better, more bad ass looking. (yes Buell st) (Yes I know im post whoring at this point) The Ulytility bar I used, before I put the lights on And here she is today! I try not to dwell in the past, after all, I go to March Badness and I find half my old parts on someone elses bike Not mine:

Thanks. I was actually aware of his light-bar, but the one on your bike seems a bit different that others of his I've seen. I'll check into it. Cheers. A- |

You have to mount something under that. Some small trinket, toy, etc. Looks great |

How's the light coverage of these 1100X's compared to the 510's? A- |
