That's pretty much the question. Wasn't really lookin to buy for another 6 months or so, but how much of a discount would make it worth picking up an 08 now instead of waiting to pick up an 09? Thoughts? Any reason to avoid the 08s? It is the cooler looking black one. I won't be able to ride it until June(ish) so that is not a deciding factor. |

From the prices I heard locally while shopping I would be hard pressed not to go with an '09 if buying new. The downsides of buying an 08 are of course, when it comes time to sell, regardless of purchase date, it is still a year older, and if something were to happen to it, the insurance company is going to look at it as a year older regardless of when you bought it. I was able to find a deal on an 08 that made it worth while to pick up a used bike for me. |

Depends on the discount. I bought my 08 right as the 09's were introduced and I talked them down in price plus got a GPS thrown in for labor cost. Out the door price was about 13XXX with taxes and stuff. I was a bit set on the bike and it also was in the faster and cooler looking black also so I wasn't necessarily pressing real hard. I imagine right now with things the way they are you may be able to get a good deal on that 08 but like Thetable said it is a year older. Either way chances are you will love it. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. I don't have to buy anything right now. Just been sitting in this lovely resort paradise known as Iraq long enough that I'm ready to jump on a good deal when I find one. I'm going insane because I can't even go into a dealership to look at one at this point. Ft bstrd, why in your opinion is the 09 a better bike? More refined? Anyone else? |

09's don't have any of the fueling issues that some of the 08's have. Also 09's have the grippier foot pegs and blacked out engine. |

The 07 was better than the 06 because of the refinements. The 08 had glitches because of the changes. The 09 has them ironed out. The 08 1125R had issues, the 09 has these issues largely ironed out. I see the 08 as a major change with the new ignition system and ECM program. It had problems. The 09 benefits from these further refinements and corrections. |

I'm kinda tall, so I liked the higher seat, the dealership had swapped the black plastic for the blue for another customer, so I have a brand new Thrust Blue '06 that only had 55 miles on it. I also got a really good deal on it. I love this thing. My real point, is buy what moves you when it moves you. As far as your current geographic disability... I feel you. I'm here back in Iraq as well. Shoot me a PM sometime.} |

Treefrog, I'm headed to Drum in the spring. Look with the mil sales guys they can get a deal on paper and then get a local dealer or any dealer to beat the prices. I tried the link to the mil sales on the buell site but it didn't work for some reason. Here's a direct link. http://www.encs.com/vehicles.aspx?id=1044 I drooled on my computer for a year until I got back and got my 06 ULY. Good times!!! I'll add a CR to the stable after the next trip. 06 has the most comfy seat of all year models. That depends on the shape of your butt. The '06 high seat is unbearable for me after a few hours yet the stock '08 seat is 10+ hour comfortable. |

I don't know why it isn't anywhere else, but black is listed on the specs page. http://www.buell.com/en_us/bikes/adventure/XB12XT/ specifications.asp#Colors "Racing Red; Thrust Blue; Midnight Black"} |

Rotorhead, I already have my quote from ENCS on an 09. If I can find a local dealer who will match it, I'd put my money there. If not, I'll go through ENCS. I'm just tired of waiting. Do you have a pin point assignment? |

06 has the most comfy seat of all year models. I didn't like the 06 seat after a while. The side seams cut into my legs and created hot spots on the back of my thighs. I like the 06 low seat. I HATE the 07/08 seat. It blows naked anus. |

Headed to 2d BDE B Co. STB. I'll be running the UAV PLT. Can't wait to get back in line to deploy again! Did you feel the sarcasm. ENCS will save you on the sales tax but I think NY will stab you with the first time you register a new bike with a sales tax anyway. Sometimes it's a wash. When I talked about getting a bike with them a few years ago before Buells were available, they could bring up the whole inventory to pick from. They may not have the delivery of the 09's yet. All you have to do is wait. You have plenty of time get work a hell of a deal from someone. |
