Buy whichever one you like best based on color. The discounts on the '08 are tempting, but be sure to remember that it IS a year older. At the very least, do some math to make sure if you were to trade it in in a few years, you'd come out even (they'll give you less for an '08 than an '09 with equal mileage/condition). As for the 25th anniversary mumbo jumbo, I woudln't put any stock in that having any impact on the value. Every single 2008 model was an anniversary model, which means there are thousnads and thousands just like it. If it ever turns out to be worth any extra, it will be decades and decades down the line. A 1928 Harley isn't worth any more than a comperable 1929 model. |

Motorcycles are an expensive proposition. Depreciation is heavy and the target re-sale market is small (Buell market even smaller.) Anyone that is worried about how much the resale value is going to be X years down the road, is fighting a losing battle. I take the ignorance is bliss approach--just ride the hell out of the bike as often as possible and don't think about how expensive my hobby really is! |

If the weather was nice, I'd say here's an idea: Setup a local trackday & get the word out to all the bike nights in the area. I'm thinking have a couple of the leftover '08's for demo'ing on track, WITH a control rider (so they don't get wadded by accident). I'm thinking if you can pull this off, you might move some of the '08 inventory, as well as gain some new customers in the area. I'll leave the plan details up to you. Since it's winter in Ohio though, I don't think you're going to get much riding in. So, how about a small card/flyer with the details on the bikes you want to move & hand them out at local bike nights? Again, trying to move you into a market segment that wouldn't normally come into your dealership under their own power. |

I'm game for a raffle at current sale price!? Odds are better than any state lotto! To that one lucky winner...talk about getting the discount of a lifetime! Be good advertising for WR as well? Could always use a spare 08 11R for mine! (Message edited by slypiranna on December 15, 2008) |

I think the left-over new '08 bike problem is more related to current economic and financial circumstances than pricing. As a residential real estate analyst recently said, 'if the price [of a home] was zero, it still would not sell because there are no buyers. Period.' I would be the perfect case in point, having just been offered a new '08 1125R, fully updated and "tuned" for $9000. While recognizing this to be a big-time bargain, I won't bite because, as a business-owner who has concerns that the economy won't turn until deep into 2010, I have pretty much killed all personal discretionary spending. Yes, I am perfectly aware that by doing that I am helping to self-fullfill my bleak economic prophesy, but fiscal prudence is over-powering right now. |
