I have a strong gas smell in my garage after riding my xb12. I know where it is coming from but are wondering if it is normal. There is a vent hose that exits the bike on the left side in front of the rear tire. When I touched the hose it was wet with gas. After several minutes there was a wet spot on the floor about the size of a silver dollar. The gas tank is not over filled and this was after a 40 mile ride. Is this normal? |

It sure doesn't sound normal to me, but I can't see any reason that the fuel wouldn't evaporate while heated, and condense inside the evap tube. Thus dripping on the floor...If you wait a couple hours after riding before looking at your cycle, you wont see that puddle. |

If you overfill your tank the fuel will heat up and expand a little as your frame/tank gets hotter. This will let some fuel out of the small diameter breather that runs dowm near your rear tire. Happens if the fuel level goes above the frame area inside the filler cap. |

There was a thread similar to this just a few weeks ago. It may be a bad tank vent valve. It's supposed to be pressure released, but over time the mechanism weakens allowing gas and fumes to escape regardless of pressure. If you remove your airbox you should be able to get to the vent without issue and inspect it. It should be a low dollar fix. |

I will keep an eye on it and make sure not to top off the tank. The bike only has 700 miles on it but has done this since I got it new in November. thanks for the help. |

My 04 does it as well. I would notice sometimes there would be a small puddle of gas after it has been parked for a bit. From what I recall, it never does it when full, only when half full or less, and only when I warm the engine up real good. Could the bad vent cause issues with the way the bike runs as well? |
