Uh oh, if it's smooth doesn't that imply a clean fracture line? If so perhaps the west coast is about to sluff off into the ocean as urban legend and conspiracy theorists and Nevada/Arizona land speculators have been predicting for year. I truely hope not. Anyone have any links to Richter Scale sites showing the modulation/frequency readings? | ||

Im on the third floor here at work and it did feel real smooth like a boat. It felt like it was going on for a full minute or more. Im in Los Angeles county and it wasnt even hard enough for me to go outside to check if the bikes tipped over. people who felt it hard are over 30 miles away... 6.5 is enough to give you a good scare. | ||

I actually WAS on a boat (CVN68) in San Diego (20 miles offshore) during an earthquake in the early 90's. It was a strange feeling. I had no idea it was an earthquake. It felt like the had just dropped the anchor. I can only imagine what it must have been like on the beach. edited by hootowl on December 22, 2003 | ||

Everything fine in LA, I didn't even know there was an earthquake until someone from the east coast called to see if all was OK. Hope everyone up there is alright, it's NO fun being in one of the bigger ones. Eventually, everything east of the San Andreas Fault will be under the Atlantic Ocean. AL | ||

All is well here in the SF Bay Area. I lived in Arroyo Grande (about 40 miles south of Paso Robles) for a few years and still have friends there. They report a few lost dishes and knick knacks that fell off of shelves, but no other damage. Was a "rocking, rolling, waving, 26-27 seconds" to quote their e-mail. They just visited a friend who owns a beauty salon in Paso in a building that is now red-tagged. Twenty people are out of work until they can re-locate. The city is working to find them a new location. The salon is next door to the bakery that collapsed and about 4 doors away from where the 2 women died. The good news is they are shaken and out of work, but it's only temporary. They'll relocate and Paso will rebuild. Thankfully, there were only two deaths when most of a block was destroyed. Glenn |
