This is the strangest thing. I searched all over and haven't seen any other occurrence of this. I recently bought a race ECM from ebay. The part number is correct and it has the "race use only" writing on it. There are no signs of tampering. I installed it on my 2005 XB12SCG after installing a drummer exhaust, buell race air filter and removing the snorkel. When I remove the exhaust valve actuator, the check engine light comes on, as it would with the stock ECM. When I reinstall the exhaust valve actuator the check engine light does not come on. How can this be happening? Any ideas? I've ordered the parts to build a cable to run ECMSPY. I figure that I can install the default race map and reset the error code that way. It's just a strange problem to have with a race ECM. |

If you have ECMSPY, go to Eeprom tab and load your Race Eeprom , then just try to change the ACTIVE MUFFLER CONTROL CONFIGURATION, it is in the column 0E and row 1F0 hex value. 19 off the valve. hex value. 99 connects the valve. Problem solved. (Message edited by buellisticx1 on October 27, 2008) |

Thanks for the advice Buellisticx1 Once i get my cable together I will definitely do this. I just thought it was weird to have a race ECM that was controlling the Active Muffler Control. I didn't know it was possible. |

I believe there is an option under the "diagnostics" tab to turn it on and off. |

You are right Rob, sorry, I forgot that, the new version ECMSPY V.1.12.1 has this option. but if that fails, you know. Cheers. |

You can change it to English using the program options tab.

Thanks for the information. I'm not at home now, should be back in May for a couple of weeks. I'm assuming that if you had some different maps you could preview them without having the bike attached. Bear with me as I'm new to Buell's and efi. I just purchsed a 2007 XB12R motor, and I'm going to try and build a bike around it. I bought the motor, efi, ecm and fuel pump. I was not able to get the wiring harness that was on the bike at the time. From what I understand there is more than one type of ecm for that bike and wiring harness also. Is there a model number or some other type of identifying code to seperate the types of ecm's? Do I have to run the stock handlebar controls, or can I use a different type? I know this is a lot of questions but I have a lot of free reading time, and would like to gain as much knowledge as possible prior to trying to program the ecm later. Also is it better to have 2 O2 sensors or one. I understand (I think) that the bike comes with one in the rear cylinder exhaust pipe. I will building my own and can put in 2 if need be. I think this enough questions for now. Thanks, Charlie |
