A different thread showed my broken piston and the missing piece is in crank case so the engine has to come out to retrieve the missing pieces. There is no more knowledgeable group for things Buell, so any suggestions as to things I should look at while tearing down? The bike is a 99 S3 with about 50K miles. Suggestions as to how to get the broken piece out of the crank case? I'll be putting in another Revolution Performance 1250 kit in. Should I do anything to the heads? |

I would say get a nice head job since you are going with a big bore kit but then again that depends on your budget. |

'Bolt, as long as your not GIVING the head job... I guess you are safe.... Back on Topic... more displacement... Headwork and 536 cams will make for a very happy engine, and rider... Chase |

Thanks for the input. Does anyone have a suggestion on getting the pieces from the piston out without total dis-assembly?

Think about this: Any metal(soft or hard)will will have to pass through the return side of the oil pump and into the oil tank ... Now if you did not PRODUCT IMPROVE your oil system as "i" have done with a return line oil filter to the oil tank this same metal will go through the feed side of the oil pump to the OEM oil filter position before it is stopped ... It is not a good idea to have metal trying to pass through the return and feed side of the oil pump, "SO" it be cleaned out of the engine ... |

It wold be a shame to get this put back together just to have metal filings trash your build. Separate the cases and clean all well. A good check of the rods/bearings and crank halves alignment would be a nice bit of security. Good luck Joe |

I'd replace the primary chain tension shoe if it hasn't been done. |
